Praise for Divine Discontent

“Is it true that we all live in quiet desperation? Or can we truly sing that it is well with our souls? In Divine Discontent, Michael Youssef reminds us that the restlessness in our souls can actually draw us to God. By using the biographies of Scripture, Dr. Youssef illustrates that God’s peace, His perfect peace, is readily available to us all. If you are looking for real rest in your spirit, Divine Discontent is real comfort for your restless heart.”
–Janet Parshall, nationally syndicated talk show host

Format: Kindle Edition
this is a good book by Michael Youssef, a Pastor from Atlanta, GA. The author addresses why people are constantly searching, not happy , feeling unfulfilled. The root of this discontentment is because of the sin of adam and eve in the garden of eden. Because of this sin, we live in the city of man, The city of man is filled with materialism ,hardships and the worship of false idols with the absence of God. According to the author the key is to draw nearer to God through Jesus Christ, this provides the only true relief from what troubles man in todays city of man. Youssef states in Part 5-The End of Discontentment- that God has framed human history between two gardens, the earthly paradise of the Garden of Eden and the eternal joy of the garden city known as the New Jerusalem or Heaven. In that city we will dwell with Him for eternity and put to an end our restless wandering, our longing for more and our ongoing search for rest and belonging. As the author states on pg. 151 "one of the greatest challenges for Christians today is how to reside in the city of man while dwelling spiritually in the city of God. This book will provide insight into finding peace through God. It is well written and will make you think. I recommend it.

This book does a great job explaining why we often feel empty unfulfilled. We were made to have a personal relationship with God and we sometimes try to fill this need through earthly things when we are really longing to feel God. Michael Youssef does a great job of explaining where our citizenship and true home is in heaven.
