5.0 out of 5 stars The Truth is in him, September 23, 1999

This review is from: Divine Rest for Human Restlessness (Paperback)
Samuele Bacchiocchi is a learned man and completely qualified to give a scholarly view of the Sabbath-Sunday question. His arguements stand on the solid rock of the Bible and NOT on the brittle traditions of man. Sabbatarians need not turn to sources outside of the Holy Bible to justify obeying an express commandment of the Almighty God. "And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him." 1 John 2:3, 4. "For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous." 1 John 5:3. "See to it that nonone takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ." Col.2:8 "...Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:...They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men." Matthew 14:6-9 Read Matthew 5:17-20. A must read for sincere searchers of the truth.

2.0 out of 5 stars Flawed Scholarship, July 23, 1999
This review is from: Divine Rest for Human Restlessness (Paperback)
Bacchiocchi is a leading apologist for Seventh-day Sabbatarianism. An earlier book - "From Sabbath to Sunday" provoked some debate, and has been effectively answered in "From Sabbath to Lord's Day" (Carson, ed.) Bacchiocchi however seems unable to get to grips with the the case made by former SDA scholars like Robert Brinsmead, let alone those in the theological and historical mainstream, which long ago demonstrated that Sabbatarianism of either the Saturday or Sunday variety was something of a non-issue in the early church. Bacchiocchi lays praise for the Sabbath on thickly, but stands in danger of missing the point entirely. Just how brittle Bacchiocchi's apolegetic is may be gauged from his championing of schismatic sects having their origin in the now non-Sabbath-keeping Worldwide Church of God.
