I like this interesting book and CD, but for some reason the author insists on making the Divine Name fit his ideas, rather than the other way around. The hardest part to deal with is that the OOO-EEE-AAA-etc. *does* rather sound like the Yod and Hay of the Divine Name, but completely ignores the second half of the name, Va- Hay. 5.0 out of 5 stars THE DIVINE NAME is Divine!, March 19, 2010
This review is from: The Divine Name: The Sound That Can Change the World (Paperback)
A remarkable book! THE DIVINE NAME is the culmination of Goldman's over 30 years of research, study and teaching in the field of sound healing. It is the discovery of a universal sound that has extraordinary ramifications for us in terms of creating harmony on both a personal and a planetary level. The book is divided into 4 sections. The first tells the story of Goldman's discovery of the Divine Name. The second focuses on the power of sound--especially sacred sound--to heal and transform. The third section is a teaches the actual intonation of the Divine Name and utilizes an interactive-instructional CD that is included with the book. THE DIVINE NAME concludes with Goldman's perspective that this most powerful and sacred of all sounds can actually be used collectively to and positively effect global consciousness. Once the information in this well researched and documented book is presented, this hypothesis seems quite valid and real. In fact, THE DIVINE NAME may be one of the most important books written about an amazing discovery that has the potential of changing not only ourselves, but the planet as well. Goldman definitely went "out on a limb" to present this material and I'm grateful he did. As he tells us, as a universal sound composed purely of vowels, THE DIVINE NAME transcends religion, belief and culture. You don't need to have musical or singing talent to experience its essence. And once you do, you'll find this book is indeed a step-by-step process of vibrational activation that is life changing. THE DIVINE NAME is a must for anyone interested in conscious evolution.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Joyful Noise, July 18, 2010
This review is from: The Divine Name: The Sound That Can Change the World (Paperback)
In The Divine Name, what you hear is what you get. The author literally teaches us God's name, literally--and it isn't Andy, as in "Andy walks with me, Andy talks with me;" nor is it God spelled backwards. I have to admit that I was a little skeptical about the book's claims at first. I've bought books before that promised to divulge life-altering, cosmic knowledge only to be left with a sense of loss of both my money and my spirit. I'm happy to say that The Divine Name delivered for me. Merely listening to the CD altered my perceptions even before joining in with the chanting. The mantras opened new channels of awareness for me I never knew I had. It was as if my consciousness had switched from analog to cable without the costly set-up fees. Once that heavenly reception came through there was no going back. By the end of the book I was ready to shave my head and join a monestary; then I remembered I was single and already living the lifestyle of a monk. Be that as it may, I found The Divine Name to be a truly divine read.

The track just repeats Yod-Hay over and over again. Fear of pronouncing the Divine Name, perhaps?
Beautiful sound, well produced, but Mr. Goldman seems to fear going all the way with it.

Same thing on Holy Harmonies, which I like even better--but--he adds a "Shin" between Yod-Hay and Va-Hay and claims it's an ancient Messianic chant (for Jesus). And yet, in this case, he does use the consonants with the vowels, but for what? What comes out means nothing. I found that a little crass. Gregg Braden's idea, I suspect.

As a Jew who studies The Holy Books voraciously, as well as Kabbalah, it's *news* to me that adding a Shin into the Divine Name gets you the ancient name of Jesus, and I bet it would surprise millions of others as well - especially bible and Kabbalah scholars. It's pandering.

The chants would be perfect had he done the obvious. Sure, use the vowels, which feel right, but the consonants are also what the ear listens for after all these years of hearing the Name. He got it *right* -- then slid away from it. Used properly the Divine Name can be used for prayerful chant. There was really no reason to go this route, and what's left isn't really quite what it claims it is, if you listen closely. A great effort, but. I'm looking forward to listening to several other of his works, though. He's definitely got it. But will he give it?

5.0 out of 5 stars There is definately something going on here, June 25, 2011

I was skeptical about this book based on this description despite the fact that I would be considered one of those gullible types. Yes, there is definitely something to these books and exercises. The only issue is of what benefit/harm does activating your chakras with your voice do to you? The book claims that it tends to elevate consciousness and there have been some spontaneous healings.
I have no personally experienced either, but I have experienced something. I will say that it hasn't appeared to have changed anything about my life or health - and this would be the biggest criticism of this book. But it does seem to be doing something. And for this, I would probably recommend this book if you like to experiment on yourself (I personally do). And yes, I have seen this technique in perhaps one other book as well, as the author might have suggested.
Another thing I noticed is just by concentrating on the chakras and intoning the vibrations in the head, I feel something too, just not as powerful as if I do it with my voice...
What I suspect (and mind you I could be wrong), happens is that activating the chakras activates those properties of the chakras. So that activating the first chakra, for example, grounds you. Activating the 6th or 7th may increase your sensitivity to psychic impressions (guessing here). He goes about activating all of them in book to possibly balance them. Yes, there could be a downside to this.... I just can't think of it and perhaps he doesn't know either (does activating them also wear the chakras out, for example? doubt it, but is it possible?).
There is also one oddity that I experienced when doing the intoning for the first time using windows media player on my computer. Some of the colors and patterns that displayed while playing the CD seemed to match the chakra colors of the sound I was intoning (I say some of them, not all of them - but it happened enough times to be weird). For example, red for the 1st chakra (and it stayed red through all the intoning).. for the 2nd chakra it was mostly red, with a flash of orange, maybe some yellow, and green. For the 3rd, it was mostly red/green (it was supposed to be yellow, but I think I saw some yellow)... for the 4th, there was both red, pink and some green (but not enough to be impressive). The 5th chakra stayed crystal clear blue (weird). The 6th was purple and green. And the 7th was white... It happened enough times to be just weird.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful toning tool, June 2, 2010
This review is from: The Divine Name: The Sound That Can Change the World (Paperback)
Sound healing pioneer Jonathan Goldman presents a simple yet powerful toning tool for creating a gateway to a higher state of being. Using the heart chakra sound as a bridge, Goldman shares how to tone the vowel sound of each of the seven chakras to unlock the sound of the divine name of God. Different religious and spiritual traditions believe that the divine name has a universal sound, and that when properly intoned, can create harmony and healing on a personal and planetary level. In the accompanying instructional CD, Goldman's healing voice leads readers through the toning exercises. Toning the sounds of the chakras creates a powerful healing experience: energy flows up and down the spine, the crown chakra opens wide and energy moves freely and expansively, and you sense that you play a small, but important part in a greater universal symphony. Goldman's sound healing tools are a fundamental and necessary part of any spiritual journey. Sound reminds us of who we are and the deep connection we hold with the divine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected Connectivity and Bridging between Earth and Sky, April 21, 2010
This review is from: The Divine Name: The Sound That Can Change the World (Paperback)
My Adventures of Spirit over the years has stretched domains shamanic, mystical, totemic, and archetypal... overlapping myriad sources of inspiration from many Ancient Teachings. The sensitive muscles of subtle and empowering perception have been granted opportunities to meld, sculpt, and co-participate in the vast unflolding of Self Discovery as this Path also becomes the chromatic ribbon that embraces the foundational stitches common to All approaches. The Divine Name, proclaimed and so authentically crafted by Meister Goldman, engenders a diligent set of practices that we might become familiar with and gradually induce a symbiotic resonance between sound and intention. The platinum edict which states that Healing = Intention plus Energy is a choir of angelic orchestration during the course of vocalizing the vowel to energy capacitance resident Within. Momentum gains geometrically, as we merge our intensity of intuitive feeling with the associated Essence in these staircase steps toward the ineffable Voice of Divine. And Yes, like the Elder who approached the Burning Bush of Light, we also Feel/Know/Appreciate the complete inter-woven fabric that bridges Earth and Sky, matter and energy, form and formlessness... The initial crease of luminescence which burst out and into my Being, when I touched the proper balance between Intention and practised singing of these sequenced sounds, dropped me to the ground... crumbled my mental and psychological artifices,,, allowing me to partake of a Communion which is both Transcendent and Present... Universal and Unique... Beautiful and True. Tears welling from deep deep archives of Spirit endeavor, released and washed over my Being, as a baptism from Covenant domains. I felt like I had in my own weathered skin, touched a Fire unweathered and ever Renewing.
I am in Awe, in Appreciation, and wish to thank Jonathan Goldman for such Renaissance weaving of integrity, intelligence, and moral clarity.
Hazaar and Amen.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Divinity Is In The Experience, March 18, 2011
This review is from: The Divine Name: The Sound That Can Change the World (Paperback)
The Divine Name is an important book for our current era. Goldman summarizes the intent behind behind the book saying "This book is a step by step process of vibratory activation that will allow you to experience the power, majesty, and healing of this extraordinary sound". While the Divine Name is based on the Old Testament name of God, Goldman intends for the intonation of the sound to expand beyond its original cultural/spiritual context, with the ultimate potential being to serve as syncretic global chant that bridges all traditions.

Other reviews on this page make reference to more intellectualized pursuits, such as the almost infinite intricacies of the Kabbalah. While such studies are profoundly vaulable, they are not completely relevant to the thesis of the Divine Name. This is not merely a book to be read from a "left brain" perspective. One must become actively involved and do the toning exercises! The energetic activations that occur while doing the preliminary practices are what provide the final intonation of the Divine Name with its full power and resonance. One can not simply "skip to the punchline". The intitiations that occur along the way via your own direct experience with the sound current are what truly build up the charge. The Divine Name is not merely to be found on the written page...It is co-created in your own heart, spirit, and energy field through the catalysts of your own voice and focused intention.
