5.0 out of 5 stars A Key to Unlock the Scriptures, June 11, 2003
By
This review is from: The Divine Plan of the Ages (Hardcover)
The writer takes the words of God in the scriptures as a whole and harmonizes them to bring out what God's design is for mankind. If you wonder why God allows what He does right now in the world, read this book. Read this book with your Bible in hand and see those scriptures unfold in a way that simply makes sense.

5.0 out of 5 stars Appeals to reason., June 20, 2003

This review is from: The Divine Plan of the Ages (Hardcover)
At 20 years of age, and with no religious training, I went on a spiritual search. I went to several church's and asked questions and few satisfying answers were forthcoming. This book (The Divine Plan of The Ages) helped me to understand the Bible in a very reasonable, and logical, form that made wonderful sense and gave great, exciting hope. To me that says a lot and is rarely found in Biblical writings. It answered a lot of questions that I had about the "big picture" and the oft asked question, "what is the meaning of life?". What are we ALL learning here. It's a great Bible study!

This book is the only one that accurately and harmoniously presents the truth of the Scriptures. It lives up to its title, "The Divine Plan of the Ages". It answers all reasonable questions on the Scriptures. A must have and a must read.

It is truly a vindication of the character of God.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most influencial book of my life!, June 8, 2003

This review is from: The Divine Plan of the Ages (Hardcover)
Topical study of the Bible at its best! Timely chapters that aid in viewing world events against the topical framework within. Chart of the Ages helps the reader comprehend where different scriptures belong on man's timeline. This is one of seven books in a series that reveal aspects of God's plan for man and explains questions that have plagued inquiring minds for ages. Included are: Why God permits evil, Jesus' return (it's object and manner), the Day of Judgement, the Kingdom of God and other Bible related topics. The author asks the reader to prove, with Bible in hand, the Divine plan presented within.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not an Apologetic. The best answer to the Problem of Evil., February 2, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Divine Plan of the Ages (Hardcover)
As an explanation of the problem of evil, this book is the best ever written. C.S. Lewis made a valiant attempt in The Problem of Pain, but his book is an apologetic of discredited Christian traditions, and as Amazon reviews demonstrate, is unsatisfying at an emotional level.

The Jewish answer is famous, too: "Why Bad Things Happen to Good People." It's conclusion: there are some things even God can't do.

The Divine Plan of the Ages, which was written in the 1880s, was a seminal work that, as Progress and Poverty by Henry George did to the world of economics, turned the religious world upside down. It was considered so subversive that bookstores refused to sell it, and churches organized book-burning parties to destroy it. It's a credit to our day that Amazon carries this book, which has been almost entirely promoted for the last 120 years by people who love the Bible, whose lives were changed for the good by the powerful insights contained in this book.

If you're a Christian who, say, wonders about the controversy between Calvinism and Arminianism, this book is for you.

If you're a missionary who feels like you are trying to sweep back the tide with a broom, this book will revive your faith.

If you're a skeptic who has become disillusioned with the answers offered by Christian apologists, you'll discover that the Bible is more harmonious than you ever dreamed, and the reasonable prospects for the future of mankind are brighter than even Christians have dared to hope.

I read this book at the age of 17 and it changed my life forever, leading me to receive Jesus Christ as the Lord of my life. More than that, it unlocked the simple, Biblical keys that present a victorious gospel, a fair and just God, and a balanced view of what's happening in the global village today.

5.0 out of 5 stars A source of hope for this fear-filled world, June 24, 2003
This review is from: The Divine Plan of the Ages (Hardcover)
This is a reprinting of a historical classic that was the third bestseller in the world in 1909. It unlocks the harmony of the Bible, revealing scriptural concepts clouded by the religious world today, for example: why God allows suffering; the future role of the Christian in God's kingdom; details about the physical and spiritual worlds; how the "Day of Judgment" will educate rather than alienate; a description of God's plan for peace on earth. Truly a source of hope for this fear-filled world.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Divine Plan of the Ages, June 19, 2003
By
Elinor W. Nichols (Houston, Texas, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Divine Plan of the Ages (Hardcover)
The Divine Plan of the Ages is an eye-opening volume which details our heavenly Father's plan for all mankind. He proves both topically and dispensationally and by the liberal use of Scriptures that Jesus, a perfect human being, died on our behalf and atoned for the sins of Adam, the only other perfect man.
The author, Pastor Charles Taze Russell, emphasizes that those studying this volume and succeeding ones should check out each Scripture and prove what he has written as true, rather than just to accept his word for it.
We know that many now living and many who are in their graves have never heard of Jesus Christ, but the Pastor advises that all will know the name of Jesus. Every person who has ever lived will be able to live for eternity as long as they retrace their steps and make up for their sinful ways. Each person will have at least one hundred years for this, and more if they are making progress toward this end. Those who do not wish to give up their sinful ways will go into the second death--extinction, as though they never existed, not to the burning hell, the idea of which so many preachers have tormented their congregations through the ages.
Although many think of heaven as an ethereal cloud where they can play harps or sing in angelic choirs, the Pastor is more realistic and notes that all in their graves will come forth in an orderly fashion in due time and will be granted the opportunity to live forever on earth, thus fulfilling the prayer prayed by so many for so long, "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven."
The author delineates a timeline in his second volume and continues his inspired work through six volumes. Please read and study this volume prior to reading the succeeding ones, as this one provides the foundation for the rest.
Pastor Russell was an ardent speaker who traveled across the ocean and was a prolific writer, with columns appearing in many newspapers throughout the world.
He makes sense of the Bible, defines many of its mysteries by going back to the original Greek to make sense of the writings and encourages each of us to follow Jesus and to walk in his footsteps.
I would encourage those who are serious about a study of the Bible to read this volume and to check out the Scriptures quoted to prove for themselves the fascinating truth about God's divine plan for all mankind.

5.0 out of 5 stars It changed my life, June 18, 2003
This review is from: The Divine Plan of the Ages (Hardcover)
This book harmonizes the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, in such a clear and concise way that it leaves the reader wanting more.

The chapters on "The permission of evil" and "ransom and restitution" are brilliant!

This is a must read for any student of the Bible.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Divine Plan of the Ages, June 18, 2003
By
This review is from: The Divine Plan of the Ages (Hardcover)
This was the most enlightening book I have ever read regarding religion. It makes complete sense of the Bible and God's plan for mankind, especially in contrast to all the frightening and confusing messages I've been taught since childhood. Reading this book completely changed my life and my understanding of God and his purpose for us.

The word "Gospel" means "good news", but until I read this book, the Bible seemed mostly like anything but Good News with ideas of God creating a place called "hell" intending to torture and torment people forever. Now I know the real love of the God of the Bible and the hope of a resurrection for all during the "times of restitution".

I highly recommend this book to anyone who truly wishes to know about God and the Bible, and how it answers so many of life's most important questions.

The small amout invested will pay off in dividends of spiritual value and understanding that is priceless!
