Book Description

May 2000
Calvin Miller's Eloquent A Requiem for Love

and A Symphony in Sand now in one book.

Who better than Calvin Miller to write two rich allegories, first one that dips the rebellion in heaven into the lore of middle earth, producing a fresh tale of creation and a new telling of the genesis of the human story. His poetic pen plays off the images of light and darkness, as well as the power of love and the love of power, as he sketches the gift of choice from the Creator to the created. It is the creation story of fallen love, of impossible dreams and ancient longings, of frustrated ambition and a love renewed to endure forever.

And this is followed by the redemption story, the great love story of Earthmaker toward his creation, and of a man and woman whose very souls are tested and strengthened as their simple longings for happiness are diverted by the call to participate in the cosmic drama. As the young maiden Trouvere struggles with the wonder and reality of a heavenly proposal that will bring unspeakable joy in the midst of devastating pain, will her betrothed withstand the archenemy's onslaught of lies?

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful Expression of God's Intent and Human Nature, September 5, 2010

This review is from: The Divine Symphony: A Requiem for Love/A Symphony in Sand (Paperback)
Calvin Miller in poetic prose weaves his own spin on the creation of man and man's subsequent fall. Within the sometimes incredibly poignant and lyrical lines he writes there is much theology to be digested. Perhaps the most challenging and indeed enjoyable bits of this read is the way Calvin Miller examines man. Taking the creative role of author to its full extent Miller paints a wide canvas of the human experience, identifying both motivation and cause for sin, as well as the desire for redemption. This is done from the perspective of the man figure, the devil figure, and the God figure. What emerges is not just the wide canvas that it surely is, but a comprehensive picture of the various stimuli or forces at work in our lives. We see in this relatively short work ourselves as we should have been, as we are, and as we can be. This is well worth the read.

Awesome book. In this day and age of hypocrisy, reading this series was more than refreshing! I actually came to tears several times just in realization that someone else must also know and love the Lord as a devoted Christian. Calvin is beautiful in his poetic expression. Endure...
