Classy, tasteful, demure...,
This review is from: Il Divo - Live at the Greek (DVD)
Crossing the borders of language and speaking the heart of the matter, these guys are somewhat enchanting to watch - their sets, their faces, their voices... It's an exquisite show. It makes you well up as you return to yourself and the feelings you sometimes hush up.
I don't know how they do it but their voices are so strong and admirable that they can conjure feelings that still don't have adjectives to describe them. They are the voices inside your heart as it breaks, as you love, as you feel the world around you. I'm hardly one to run off to every concert or event but I really found watching this one quite classy and so I'm saying something small. It's a great production, and for their talent, some credit must also be given to the cameramen and producers who did such a good job of capturing this surreal show. When I was little it was the Narnian wardrobe that transported me away but today watching this show was like the adult getaway from the concrete jungle and rat race that I sometimes let consume me. It's not cheesy or mushy. For those not afraid to be human, it's just right. However, before I get ahead of myself, it really is an aquired taste and not for everyone. Be selective about the place and time to watch it or else it might be all wrong. As a side note, I can may be see this being great at dinner parties and Christmas gatherings. Season's Greetings!

I give this DVD the highest rating because Il Divo reaches all ages with there incredible voices, their charm, the ability to control the audience from the moment they walk on stage. I saw them in person in June in Atlanta, GA and although they had changed a few things in their performance I still felt like I was there all over again. At first I wasn't pleased with the first half of the DVD because I thought it was a bit "over" performed, but then the more I listened to it, the better I began to appreciate their talent even more and LOVED it, all of it. I buy this for all of my friends. They too have become Il Divo fans with a little coaxing from me and none of us can wait for them to tour the USA again. A definite 5 stars!

Great concert DVD. I have seen Il Divo in concert. This DVD gives a nice blend of music, very close to their live show. Not as good as the real thing, but very close. This DVD will make you want to see Il Divo in person. You Should.
The extras are wonderful. The three versions of "Time of Our Lives" are very nice. The coversation interview was very good. Gives one an insight to David, Carlos, Sebastien and Urs. Puts Il Divo in perspective. They appreciate their fans and enjoy the music. If you love Il Divo you will not want to miss this!!

I hadn't heard of Il Divo until a friend lamented that she and her family couldn't get tickets to a sold-out concert in Canada (they had planned to cross the border for this concert). She then went on to describe in great detail how handsome this international group of singers are. After watching this DVD several times, I couldn't agree more. (Though they are all cute, I think Sebastien is my favorite "divo.")
I wasn't sure how pop songs would translate into a contemporary classical setting---but these songs, "Unbreak My Heart" and "Unchained Melody" sound great. I love the song "Isabel" b/c that same music (Faure's Pavane, Op. 50) is featured in a documentary of the School of American Ballet/NYC Ballet. My favorite song is "I Believe in You." It's not necessarily the best musically of the selections, but the lyrics are so inspirational. If you're feeling discouraged, overwhelmed, etc., play this track on repeat in your DVD player. Very enjoyable--if you like artists like Sarah Brightman, Charlotte Church, Josh Groban, and Amici Forever, then you're sure to love Il Divo.

I received my Il Divo Live at the Greek Theatre, yesterday. OH MY GOODNESS! Absolutely fantastic and seeing them singing all my favorite songs, Christmas came early for me. Being able to watch them perform on this dvd is as close as I will get to seeing them. Anyone wanting to hear four fantastic voices need to get this dvd, and they aren't hard on the eyes either.

A Pleasure and A Treasure!,
This review is from: Il Divo - Live at the Greek (DVD)
Say what you will about Simon Cowell, some love him, some don't, but he knows his stuff when it comes to music. Il Divo is his creative genius at work. Being a lover of both genres, I have to admit to being skeptical about the whole tenors, baritone and pop artist meet multi-lingual POP music idea. I hadn't heard any of IL DIVO's music until, channel surfing one night, I heard them perform on a TV special. I was amazed at the beauty of the harmonies, the transformation of the translated music and the gorgeous production. I purchased this DVD the following day and have lost count how many times I have watched it and shared it with others. To a one, these people are charming and talented and give performances that are as beautiful to watch as they are to listen to. The DVD is so well shot that it gives you the feeling of being there in the audience. At one point in the program, Urs Buhler talks about their song, "Passera." He says, "it is one of his favorite songs, not just for the beautiful Italian melody, but because of the text. Passera is about music and how listening to music can get us through some very difficult times in life." As a military wife whose husband is deployed, I agreed with him whole-heartedly. And I thank Urs and David and Sebastian and Carlos for making this lonely and difficult time more bearable. To those who appreciate them, they truly are a gift. Leave aside any pre-conceived notions or cynicism...see and hear this one for yourself, you'll be glad you did. It is a singularly unique musical experience.

i love il divo's songs. but the problem with this DVD is that they don't make the audio quality very well. the songs must be played with state of the art audio systems to get somewhere close to what the actual concert was like. They lowered the fan's applauses so low that it wasn't even funny. It was like the fans wer clapping... and there were no sound to the clapping barely.

I've been trying to introduce different kinds of music to my high school students, and they have become intrigued by Il Divo. I had to explain that Simon "The Mean American Idol Judge" Cowell had done a world search to find exceptional young male operatic voices to form the Il Divo group. I used several Il Divo CD selections (I have them all!) to illustrate various grammar and structure points, and TADA! the music caught their interest. But on a recent day of rigorous standardized testing, I allowed the students to relax a bit and watch this DVD while they worked on individual projects. I had seen it as part of a PBS fund-raising effort and ordered it immediately. All of us enjoyed it tremendously. Of course, as with any live performance, the recording is not the best, but watching these four young men perform is enough entertainment in itself. I can testify to the fact that some young people in Houston are now "turned on" to a genre of music that they had previously avoided like the plague!

These guys are the most incredible group to enter the scene in decades. Their talent, personalities and looks are a feast for the senses and this DVD is one you will view over and over. I'm hoping they are around for years to come and keep bringing the world their beautiful music... who knows maybe their music will help the world heal it's many ailments and realize that we aren't that different after all....
