Simply THE BEST BOOK on divorce for children,
This review is from: Divorce Is a Grown Up Problem: A Book About Divorce for Young Children and Their Parents (Paperback)
This is simply the best book about divorce for children. It is usually out of print but your library or therapists office may have a copy. As a practicing child therapist I have worn out several copies of this simple, straight forward book about the "grown up problem" divorce. It avoids being cute, it avoids dear little animals, silly statements and the "a dear little lady bug on every dear little flower picture" mode. A parent could read this with a child and answer the questions it generates with out being syrupy. The children in the book are nameless, unisex and easy to identify with. The drawings are black and white line drawings... no distraction from the text. Face it, divorce IS a grown up problem and decorating it with cute illustrations, delightful bunnies, dinosaurs or bears, does not change the facts: For a child divorce is hard, sad, something he did not cause or can not fix. Comfort, if any, comes in being straight forward, "Divorce IS a Grown Up Problem." I also highly recommend the similar follow up book by the author, "Now I Have a Step Parent and its kind of confusing" done in similar style.
