1.0 out of 5 stars I just not feelin' it
I just have to say that this book was WACK ON ALL LEVELS!!!! I do not know where the author got his degree from, but it seemed like maybe he picked it up at the local pawn shop somewhere. His english and grammar were nonexistant throughout the entire so called book. I wish I could give this book a -5 star rating.

4.0 out of 5 stars Get Ready For The Ride, May 18, 2005
This review is from: Divorce Him, Marry Me: Second Edition (Paperback)
Darrin Lowery-Smith does his best to give readers an original, suspenseful, page turning book.

Divorce Him, Marry me is what Derrick tells Rose, an older and very married woman. Derrick and Rose are occasional classmates at University of Chicago, both working toward their masters. Derrick falls madly in love with Rose and can't stop fantasizing about her even though he knows it is wrong.

Rose is married to Michael and very faithful, but wants her own independence. She goes back to school against his will hoping to not only gain control of her life, but to let Michael know he can no longer tell her what to do. He hasn't been paying her much attention anyway, so why try and please him? It was time she started to please herself.

An argument occurs between Rose and Michael that sends her on a mini vacation to Wisconsin by herself, where she just so happens to run into Derrick. The love affair begins.

The author doesn't just stop there. He takes readers on a wild goose chase, revealing twists and turns from every angle of a dramatic situation. You WILL stay in this book until it's completed. I guarantee it. I didn't notice the character mix up that the reviewer from Rawsistaz speaks of, but did get confused on several scenes in the book. I had to read about Patricia and Kim a couple of times before I realized Kim was really Karen, and there were times throughout the book where I didn't know who was telling the story, but other than that, Divorce Him, Marry Me, was written to entertain, and that it did.

4.0 out of 5 stars How interesting this turned out, April 29, 2007
This review is from: Divorce Him, Marry Me: Second Edition (Paperback)
This book had so many twists and turns that I found to be smashing. By the title of the book I tried to figure out what it was about before reading. Man, was I wrong. I read this book overnight, and start reading it again the next day to make sure I didn't leave anything out. I found some parts to be a litta boring, but the majority was very interest and kept me wondering.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Erotic Thriller for real!, September 21, 2004
This review is from: Divorce Him, Marry Me: Second Edition (Paperback)
I picked up Forbidden. That was my first read by the author and I was blown away by it. I then picked up his other book called Down Low, Double Life and was blown away by that book also. The sex scenes were off the chain! After that, I had to pick this joint up. This was his first character novel and it turns out that this one had more erotica in it than the last two. THEN, after reading the books I was surprised that they are connected. They are not sequels to one another, but the characters overlap. That was cool. The bartender is the same in all three books, she gives the lead character in each book updates on other lead characters. I messed up by reading the books in the wrong order. The only reason I don't give this book five stars is because of the typos. The storyline is off the hook. There is something for the women as well as the men as far as being an entertaining read. The author promises a sequel in each one. I'm waiting for them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Drama Time, May 2, 2004

Are you ready to read a page turning literary soap opera? Do you enjoy reading drama, suspense, and romance that don't always have a happy ending? Then I invite you to read DIVORCE HIM, MARRY ME by Darrin Lowery-Smith.

The story centers on Derrick, a 35 year old social worker enrolled in college pursuing his master's degree and who has a crush on his classmate Rose. He fantasizes about her all the time. Rose is a 47 year old married school teacher who admires Derrick from a distance. Rose's husband, Michael, a police officer, is intimidated by her decision to go back to college which causes tension between them.

Derrick and Rose become friends and although there is a mutual attraction, age difference notwithstanding, Rose has no intention of being unfaithful to her husband of 27 years. Realizing the latter, Derrick develops a romantic relationship with Stephanie who is a single mother with a teenage son.

Fate intervenes and Rose learns that her husband has been having an affair with her white classmate, Karen. Unfortunately, Karen has several skeletons that are soon revealed in a very cunning way. Stephanie's son's father suddenly appears on the scene and decides he wants things the way they use to be, not mentioning the fact that he has been married to another woman for 14 years. The primary and secondary characters come face to face with their individual dramas and realize that it's not easy severing ties.

What happens next can be compared to a piñata filled with suspense, lies, manipulation, violence, murder, eroticism and psychotic behaviors. The aftermath brings out intense actions and decisions that will affect people's lives forever.

The storyline was original and much effort was put into giving the reader a unique fast paced novel. I think it was even too fast paced for the author because there were character mix-ups in a couple of areas. However, it did not negatively impact the storyline because the layout of the events allowed you to realize whom the author was referencing.

Mr. Darrin Lowery-Smith developed a great plot and the story inscribes his ability to incorporate explanations of his characters' behavioral patterns and the reasons for their choices. DIVORCE HIM, MARRY ME is a good novel for readers who enjoy drama, romance, and surprise endings with a twist.

4.0 out of 5 stars He/She's Mine!, June 7, 2009
This review is from: Divorce Him, Marry Me: Second Edition (Paperback)
Having what some may consider a mid-life crisis, Rose, a forty-seven-year-old married mother of one, decides to go back to school. It isn't easy, but she welcomes the challenge.

Her fellow classmate, thirty-five-year-old Derrick, is working on his masters in psychology. There's no denying the mutual attraction between the two. But remember, Derrick is single and Rose is not.

As the two fight their attraction, circumstances change setting off a web of jealousy, deceit, love, insanity and even murder.

Hands down, Darrin Lowery knows drama and he knows how to deliver a story saturated with it. Now this novel is one of his earlier works so it doesn't posses the finesse of his later works as his skills have sharpened, but it is worth reading. It arches over the top, but it'll pull fans along and not disappoint. The editing was horrible and it could have flowed a little smoother, but neither detracts from the solid plot. I'd love to see Darrin revisit this story and re-release it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Divorce Him and Marry Me, May 9, 2008
This review is from: Divorce Him, Marry Me: Second Edition (Paperback)
My goodness, this was one of the greatest books, I've encountered this year. The first person narratives of the different characters really is one of my favorite reading styles. Wow! I see a sequel, as Patricia is still one outstanding character and Karen has the potential to relapse. What a great insight into psychology. (One word of advice to any author, is to be sure to have the material proof read-there were quite a bit of typos). Other than that vice, I have been raving to my friends of this great book. This author, Darrin Lowery-Smith,is new to me, but I see a continuous stream of books coming from this great talent. ENJOY...

1.0 out of 5 stars IS IT ME?, August 10, 2007
This review is from: Divorce Him, Marry Me: Second Edition (Paperback)
I thought this book was absolutely horrible. I am an avid reader and did not find this book in the least bit entertaining or realistic. There were character mix ups, several inconsistencies, and writing in repetitive form. Oh, and did I mention the poor editing? Several words were capitalized that should not have been and words that should have been were not. I don't think Mr. Lowery even proof read his book.

I don't think it's necessary to "self advertise" in novels and find it a turn off. Unfortunately, Mr. Lowery did so several times which makes me not want to pick up another publication by this author. I was extremely disappointed with this novel.
