A CD worth Owning!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Le Divorce: The Original Soundtrack Album (Audio CD)
Le Divorce the soundtrack is captivating. It has ALL of the songs from the film; two of which are not listed on the song list but make up twenty eight and twenty nine. Quelqu'un m'a dit by Carla Bruin is track twenty eight and really steals the spot light from the rest of the lyrical music. As far as the score by Richard Robbins two thumbs way up it's hip but has that old Paris feel.I love this CD!

Slow start, but better near the ending,

If you like the trailer music, you will not find it on this soundtrack. The first half of the CD is slow and mild, while the second half picks up the pace.

I went to a special advance screening of the film last week and was really taken with the music. During some of the songs that appear in the film, my friend kept turning to me asking "who sings this?" I had no idea and after it was over I picked up a copy of the soundtrack. I'm always fascinated with discovering artists that are familiar overseas. This soundtrack has an abundance of them including Serge Gainsbourg, Patrick Bruel/Johnny Halliday,Pamela Peacemaker, Jane Birkin and Carla Bruni. The songs set a mood which, regardless of the language barrier, transport you to another place. The music by academy award nominee Richard Robbins (he also contributes to the liner notes as does the film's director James Ivory)stands out on its own. The hauntingly beautifull Chez Persand remains my favorite. All in all, a good solid soundtrack that you'll find yourself listening to again and again.

Okay, I have a cd of French music and it has the song that they play in the trailer! I didn't know how to respond to the question so hopefully you'll find it here. The cd is from Williams-Sonoma and is called La Mer. Its track number nine titled C'est Magnifique. And if you liked this soundtrack it's probably worthwhile to buy this cd! Hope its still available and that this helped, oh, if not, the song is by L'Accordéoniste if that helps!

The movie's most memorable song--Carla Bruni's scene-stealing "Quelqu'un m'a dit"--is not on this album. I could also swear there was more cool Serge Gainsbourg jazz stuff in the film than features here. Like the movie's heroines, I feel suckered and bereaved.
