Book Description

February 19, 2007
One and one half million (20%) of our nation's children will experience the divorce of their parents this year. Often, these children suffer needlessly when their parents attempt to punish each other. The eight challenges presented in this book give parents the opporutnity to help their children learn about love and forgiveness by helping to maximize the love a child has in his or her life. The advice is simple, straightforward and nonjudgmental. All parents would benefit from reading this book, but the message is especially helpful to divorced and remarried couples.

4.0 out of 5 stars Commonsense wake-up call for all parents, April 9, 2007
This review is from: The Divorced Parent's Challenge: Eight lessons to teach children love and forgiveness (Paperback)
This book, by a medical professional with war stories of her own, gives steps that parents need to move forward, or in the right direction, after divorce, even long after.

One of the things the author does best is running examples, stories from real families, that are not the same tired anecdotes as similar books where you can anticipate the story and the lesson. They rang authentic, and I looked forward to them.

I would recommend it to any parent, even those still together, as the book's overlying message is that children should come first, and that parenthood is for adults.

5.0 out of 5 stars putting children first, May 27, 2009

This review is from: The Divorced Parent's Challenge: Eight lessons to teach children love and forgiveness (Paperback)
Excellent book coming from someone who's been through the trauma of losing a child and divorce, survived, and is sharing her experiences and wisdom through an accessible, positive method she's created. Grabenstein helps divorced parents recognize the pitfalls that result in allowing their ego battles to take primary importance, and consequently, damaging their children. By loving, supporting, and being the best mother she can to the children of her two families, she heals herself. She also shows by example how she put her children first and still managed to develop a career as a nurse, workshop leader and author. Very impressive.
