Editorial Reviews

From the Author

When I started writing my second novel, I wanted to take a complete change of direction. The Trojan Project was a thriller, something for the reader to get their teeth into. Divorcees.Biz is so very different.
It is light-hearted and fun. The four main characters all have different personalities, yet they rub along well together.
Sadie is perhaps the most outrageous, but she keeps the four going through thick and thin. I like to think that I based Sadie on myself - a little bit crazy, but with a good heart.

About the Author

Since beginning a comprehensive writing course with The Writers Bureau in 2001, my articles and short stories have been published in a variety of magazines in the UK.  In 2005 two of my short stories were included in quite different anthologies. The first story was in an International Anthology, published in June, while the second appeared in Café Ole - Too Hot To Handle, which was launched in Glasgow. My first novel, The Trojan Project, a thriller, was published at the end of May 2008. Divorcees.Biz came next, followed by Only Twelve Days. Both of these novels are romances.   I also review books for newbooks a bi-monthly magazine informing the public of new books on the shelves.
I am a member of the Society of Authors, the Society of Women Writer's and Journalists and The Edinburgh Writer's Club, as well as being an Associate Member of NAWG (National Association of Writers Groups).

More About the Author

Eileen Thornton lives in Kelso in the Scottish Borders. Though she only began writing in 2001, many of her short stories and article have appeared in several national magazines in the UK. But then she felt the urge to move on to writing something more gritty.

Her first novel, The Trojan Project, an action thriller, was published in 2008. "While writing it, I felt I was on the ride of my life. I tried to grab everyone's attention from the very start and give them a rollercoaster read."

Since then Eileen has concentrated on women's fiction. Divorcees.Biz, a novel of fun and romance, was published in 2012 with Only Twelve Days, a heart-warming romance, following in November 2013.

She is currently working on a sequel to Divorcees.Biz, entitled: I Haven't a Clue!

Review by Angella Graff is the contemporary, or as they're calling it "chick lit" book about four friends, all divorced, who decide to get together and start up an online dating agency for divorced people. The book tells the tales of four friends, Connie, Jenny, Lucy and Sadie. Their ages aren't given, but one of them mentions having a child past his exams, so I'm assuming University age, therefore I'm assuming the women are at least forty, or just under.

The book was light, a definite easy read, one you can get done in a day or a couple of nights if you have the time. I read this book while I was laid up on the couch with a cold, so it took me practically no time at all. The language in the book was light and easy, nothing complicated, which was good for my sleep-deprived brain.

Honestly I'm struggling right now to rate the book, because in all honesty I didn't like it at all. I found the characters were so two-dimensional that the only way to tell them apart were either by their clothes (Sadie is described as a "unique" dresser) and after that simply by the fact that they had different names.

When the author tried to distinguish between their personalities, the characters became so unlikable that I found I didn't care what happened to them at all. The book rushes through the beginning at such a speed that when Lucy goes off to meet an old friend and has a near-violent run-in with her described "abusive" ex husband, I found I didn't care.

I think the biggest problem with the book was that the story was told, not shown. We were told that the characters had relationships with each other, but there was no evidence of them caring at all what happened to the other people.

A well written contemporary romance, full of humour and loveliness. I usually prefer my romance stories to have a lot of drama, but this one reads really easily and keeps you entertained. It's perfect if it's cold outside and you're looking for a bit of a laugh and the lovely feeling of warm fuzziness in your heart. Actually I think it'd be great as a summer holiday read too !
The four girls are different to each other, and you get to like them as you get to know them, warts and all. Their journey, that they hope takes them to their happily ever after, is a rather cool ride. Makes me want to open my own dating agency and have fun playing matchmakers (and make megaloads of money in the process!... Oh and why not meet lots of men as well <wink>).

If contemporary romance is your thing, give a try. You'll love it.

Format: Paperback

Divorce often means that some women begin to cower, hide or even spend their time wallowing away in sorrow feeling wronged. Ex-husbands sometimes seek revenge for no reason, want their ex's to feel the financial strain caused by having to pay alimony and child support by demanding changes in the already signed agreement. But, some women as you will learn take the as some might say bull by the horns, lift themselves up, shake off all the anger and decide to do something that will not only benefit others but just maybe help them snag the next Mr. Right. Meet Connie, Sadie, Lucy and Jenny and why not become a member of the newest online dating agency Divorcees Biz and along with them fill out the application, pay the fee and start on your road to what some might call husband hunting but with a definite touch of class.
Connie seems to be the brains behind the organization and the one who wants to set the bar high and the clientele on an upper echelon level. Lucy has computer savvy and she's the one that created the website, the codes, the client profiles and keeps track of who wants to meet who, when, where, why and much more. Jenny is kind, sweet and just wants to help where she can and even attempts to learn the computer. Sadie I have to say is my favorite no holds barred, says it as she sees it, tells it like it is and is truly someone you want as a friend even if she is not as she puts it so tidy.
Four friends with wild and different personalities who have decided to risk it all for the sake of love. So, what happens that just might put a snag in their opening? Well, the champagne is poured, the appetizers are set out and the guests are arriving and what happens?

Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase is a delightful, short read. It is the story of four women friends who decide to open a "classy dating service" in the Mayfair district of London. (A friend once shared the following words of wisdom with me: Always keep a good address. This book adheres to that principle.) The book not only tells the story of the friend's new business venture, but also the story of the four women involved and their second chances at happiness. It is a very English/British story using their vernacular, so many American readers may not understand all the innuendos and the vocabulary used in the story. I recommend this book for anyone looking for a lighthearted, fun read. It would make an excellent movie.
