Funny thing about the other reviews. One from a guy who expects us to respect his opinion after he admits shopping at Camelot. But not just camelot, but the camelot bargain bin. The women love when you give 'em the 'im sure i brought my wallet before I left....' routine then give them the puppy dog eyes once you take them out to dinner. I'm sorry Avail didnt give you the typical 'lookout' sound you were going for. The other review was from a guy who somehow thinks since he self-published his own glorifying fanzine his authority on taste is now immensely precise. At any rate, Avail is one of the best posthardcore bands out their along with Hot Water Music, etc. Very nice guys, go see them if they come your way.

Still The Best,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dixie (Audio CD)
While their musical ability has only continued to increase on 4AM Friday and Over The James (the albums which followed it), Dixie is still the most textured and soulful of Avail's albums. Its urgency never fades or softens, even with repeated and repeated and repeated listenings. The same heartfelt emotion and intense melodies that drove the looser and gentler Satiate drive Dixie, but here it manifests itself with a harder edged, almost D.C. style of punk rock that has - with their more recent albums - gelled to become Avail's unique punk sound. This is the kind of album you can't just listen to. It gets inside you, adrenalizes you, pumps your blood and forces you to sing (or scream) along. This is the kind of album you FEEL. Moreso than Satiate, Dixie is the raw, energetic, and passionate blueprint for a band that has become one of the most powerful and affecting punk bands working today. They're incredible live, too.

This cd is amazing. Give it a chance. Open your mind to something different before you bash something you really don't understand.

Avail is the best band ever to grace this planet,

Ok, maybe that is a bit of an overstatement. However I am still baffled that anyone could dislike this cd. Great lyrics and original music. Wait a minute though, this is not standard pop-punk, you better not give it more than a single listen. Being close minded is probably better.

Avail is a Hardcore punk band from Ritchmond, VA (Hence the name Dixie). They pump out relentless rock that will have you moshing by yourself. Your punk collection would not be complete without them.

Freeman,
This review is from: Dixie (Audio CD)
"Take heart, all of you who've mourned the absence of Avail from the Richmond scene these past several years. Freeman, a new band who've been around for the past year or so, reunites 3/5 of the classic Satiate/Dixie lineup of Avail, bringing them back together for the first time in fifteen years. Guitarist Joe Banks is still technically a member of Avail (since they are technically still together), but drummer Erik Larson left after 1998's Over The James, and Avail bassist Chuck McCauley, who is playing rhythm guitar in Freeman now, last played with Avail in 1994. Along with former Wheelbite vocalist Freeman Martin and former Mason Dixon Disaster bassist Chris Rigo, they make up Freeman . . . celebrating the release of their debut LP, It Doesn't Matter. The album is currently available . . . and it's pretty excellent, bringing that same driving, melodic, somewhat emotional sound that Avail always had together with more overt hardcore influences and Freeman's voice, which is reminiscent both of Hot Water Music's Chuck Ragan and of Dave Smalley during his Down By Law days. The album definitely continues in the tradition established by Avail's classic 90s albums, and Freeman should easily win a place in the heart of that band's longtime fans."

This is my favorite CD ever. I make sure to try not to listen to it too much because I like it that much. If you like post-punk, indie, hardcore, punk... do yourself a favor.

"Monotnous drogeny should be the name of this Avail effort". Unlike such bands as Dillinger 4, Jesus Scuad, Early Warning, this band sucks. It goes for the obvious bass line and unriveting guitar hooks. The secret track ( an accoustic ballad which expresses Beau-Beau's homosexual tendencies towards the bass player Brian.)sets the tone for the entire album. I meen come on homosexuality went out in the 80's along with slinkys.

I got this cd because my friend loves Avail and he told me I'd really like it. Unfortunately, I'm not as fond of it as he is. I don't know a lot about the band, but I really disliked this cd. It sort of drones on and on and I couldn't really get into it. If you're looking for some good punk, I suggest you look somewhere else.
