I listened TO DIZ WITH LOVE!!!!,
This review is from: To Diz With Love (Audio CD)
I bought the cassette in the early 90's and couldn't believe my ears. I liked Dizzy's works and had other albums. But this one is my favorite. Maybe because of his death, maybe beause of the title, and maybe because it is great fun to listen to. What a personality, voice and trumpet...even in his older years. I love his Cuban influences in his music. This is the essence of Dizzy. I even enjoyed his comments when he missed a few notes. I wore the cassette tape out and now own the CD. He had class. Get it and enjoy the historical Diz!

Good old Diz,
This review is from: To Diz With Love (Audio CD)
Musically speaking - Dizzy was far, far and long ago from his peaks, but this CD is a heated jam session with Marsalis, Roditi and other "young lions" of jazz trumpet.
Additionally, as a special attraction, ancient Doc Cheatham who was influenced by Diz, also blows here on "Mood Indigo"; he may very well be the strongest soloist on this excellent album. Gillespie's solos at this late stage of his career are, as someone formulated it, like fallen swans (the spirit is willing but the flesh is quite another matter) but all the other musicians surrounding Diz with their love and energy make this a true jazz gem. In addition to horns, the rhythm section is also excellent. A must have!

WOA!,

I just picked this album up today at a used CD store for about $7. I am totally lucky to have seen this. This is not just an album trumpet players need, but a recording ANY jazz fan needs. It's waaay cool. Wynton plays like a BAMF (as always) and every other cat on here is screamin'. Check this out, you won't be disapointed.
