My Favorite Dizzy Album,
By
This review is from: Dizzier & Dizzier (Audio CD)
while most of this album is on the compilation "The Complete RCA Victor Sessions", i think this album is some of its best material. i think of this album as a one disc summary of those two discs.the album itself is powerful, fast, and hip. i always dig the first 11 tracks a lot, but sometimes getting to Johnny Hartman's renditions That Old Black Magic and You Go To my Head, leave something to be desired for me. i mean, he's a great singer, but it doesn't seem to fit the hard driving bop of the rest of this album. ironically, the title track is a tasty bop ballad. i dig that as well. the last three tracks are a lot of fun, with some great scat on 15 and 17. check out Hey Pete ... i would recommend this album to anyone interested in getting into bop or jazz. PARENTS, play this for your kids. i'm sure the little ones could dig this as well.
