I think this CD is excellent, almost perfect in its simplicity. James Raftery's acoustic guitars, creatively layered vocals, strings and simple percussive instrumentation might be considered folk.. with a gothic twist. "Dead Ringer" is one of the most haunting (and beautifully written) songs I have ever heard. The rest of the songs are not far behind. I bought this CD after seeing Rat Wakes Red live at Colby College and the more I listen, the more I like it. I had never heard of the band before seeing them at Colby. I heard singing, wandered into the coffehouse while they were playing... and I stayed until they were finished. I hope to hear more songs from this band in the future and that they (or, at the very least, Rat) can find a way to record and release another album. |
