I'm writing this on the year 2004. The album was first released in 1994, at the time when i wasn't any knowledgeable music-listener. That's why for me it sounds so out-of-fashion and that makes it interesting, a different experience. But that's about that.
Dizzy Mizz Lizzy is yet another good Danish rock phenomenon. It's like heavy-rock, but not all the way. It is too melodious to call it heavy. (By the way, there's no way i listened to pure heavy-rock, can't stand it!) One of the songs has words "Sorrow is my only friend" in it and for me it is the passing theme of the album. Although it has its moments, that sound happy, you get the feeling, that quite everything is f..ked-up. Sitting on the floor, feeling a bit anguish, having no idea, what to do. But it's beautiful too. Harsh and melancholy at the same time.

This album, which was dizzy's first, is simply a great rock album. This is probably the kind of album that you have to listen to a couple of times before it really gets to you... it has everything you need, from the great fast paced opener, waterline, to the sensitive and beautiful ballad, silverflame. Now, I'm not saying that the songs are very versatile and different or anything, because they are really not that different. The songs have some similiarities, but they are not too alike. but these similiarities does not bother me at all. I think that it creates kind of a direction for the album, so it is like you know what style this is and that is what there will be more of all the way through the album. Every single song seems to grow on you after a couple of listen-throughs. For some reason this stuff never gets old. even though this album is back from 1994, some people here in Denmark still listen to it like at just came out yesterday. of course it is mostly Dizzy fanatics that keep on listening to this forever, but every person with a taste for rock should be able to sit down and listen to this album over and over again, because this is a damn solid album. If you like this, you might wanna check out Tim Christensen's (the vocalist, guitarist and songwriter for Dizzy Mizz Lizzy) solo work. it is quite a bit more ballad oriented, but you should check it out. so far he has put two albums out. "secrets On Parade" and "Honeyburst". |
