Superb swing!, January 31, 2006
This review is from: Djangologie/USA Vol 2 (Audio CD)
I adore this "Djangologie/USA" disc! It features great swing from the early days. The recording is filled with instrumental tunes that have become standards like "I Ain't Got Nobody" and "Dinah." The tunes are very catchy. Surprisingly, there's very little Stephane Grappelli style violin work here. Most of this music is brass driven and the cornet work closely echoes Satchmo. While most arrangements feature a balance of solos, Django steps out on a few songs like "Sweet Georgia Brown." While Greg Thuman's critique lambasted the sound quality, this revier has no such issue -this is what recorded music sounds like from back in the day and I never thought twice about it. This music makes the listener foot tap in tempo and wear a smile. While not being an early jazz aficionado (I typically listen to more modern styles), I believe that any jazz enthusiast could fall in love with "Djangologie/USA."
