Fantastic Man and Artist,
By NJS (NYC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Djembefola [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have seen this video 4 or 5 times and I don't even own it yet. I check it out regularly from my video store. This is not only a great video for serious drumming students as it is about a great drummer, Mamady Keita, but it is also a good watch for all those who love a good story. The video follows Keita on his first trip home to Guinea in many years. He hasn't seen his family since he was about 12 or younger. There is the side theme about how political events affect a life. There is love of drumming and performing. And there is the very moving reunion with his family which would touch anyone's heart. Lots of music and dance and the inspiration of someone who feels that what he loves to do is what God had planned for him all along. His destiny and his love are one.

An inside look at the heart of the djembe,
By A Customer
This review is from: Djembefola [VHS] (VHS Tape)
A must see for anyone interested in Africa, African culture or African drumming. See and hear the sounds of the djembe from the master himself, Mamady Kieta, world reknown performer and teacher. Follow Mamady on an exciting, informative and emotional trip from Belgium, back to his small village, rediscovering family, friends and his drumming roots. This is my favorite video of my collection of drum related subjects.
