Pure Rock N Roll,

I remember many many years ago when my then-roommate (who is 7 years my senior) said "Dude, there's a lot of early punk rock you don't even know about." He pulled out "Raw Power" by The Stooges, MC5's first album, and DMZ. I was pretty insulted that he assumed I'd never heard of The Stooges or MC5, but I'd never heard of DMZ so I refrained from challenging him to a fist fight. And after he played the record for me, I felt like I owed him one for cluing me in to a truly awesome and kick ass band.

If your a fan of Sonics/ Stooges cocktails this is the band for you.Twisted guitar work and the antics of Monoman at "11" is what makes this the reissue of the year.Get this and you'll figure out just where these so called " cool new bands" get their sound from.Vintage 1978 Boston Rock and Roll.

DMZ - The sound that curl your hair.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dmz (Audio CD)
I bought this record back in 78', because I wanted some new sound. And the new sound was a new, raw, rocking'n'rolling sound. Some friends said it was punkrock, but I did'nt care. Punk is good enough for me. I'd like when Mono Mann cried out the words in the old Sonics song: Cinderella. Even songs like "Mighty Idy" and "Don't jump me mother" freaks me out. Curly hair all over my body. The DMZ even relised a album called "The relics". What more can I say, this one is one of my favorites.

decent garage band,

This band was one of the main events at CBGB after the likes of Blondie, the Ramones and more commercially successful acts had moved on to bigger things, and the Dead Boys were rising as the main attraction at CBGB. They were a good live band, but a mediocre production hampered the quality of the album. Compared to the live performances this album was a little disappointing, but if you're a garage band junkie I'd recommend it.

The One Album,

This is THE one album I'd want to have with me on a desert island - turntable, or no. The best vinyl ever released by anyone! Underrated, unknown. Play it LOUD!!

underrated classic,

Perhaps I was misinformed but I always heard from people that this was a lost, Ramonesy, Real Kids-esque 70's punk rock classic. I bought it a few years back and wasn't particularly impressed, partially because of the misinformation. Upon further listens, I came to realize that this is a really, really sick 70s RNR record with a bit of punk influence. For that style, it's an undeniable classic.First, the label and engineer did a really good job remastering this LP. The CD is LOUD as hell. Very good. Like the other reviews say, this is a seriously heavy, almost proto-punk sounding rock album, ala the Stooges' "Raw Power" or MC5's "Kick Out The Jams." It's not all fast 16th note drumming and downstrokes like the first Ramones LP, it's more open hi-hat wailing on the drums and great 50's/60's RNR riffs that sound really heavy and tighter than hell. It's not Blue Cheer-heavy but it's easy to see how this LP was a huge influence on bands like Mudhoney, Easy Action, the Dirtbombs, and tons more. Either way, don't expect this to sound like the first albums from the Ramones, the Kids, or the Vibrators but if you want some absolutely brutal, midpaced, punk-influenced 70s rock....GET THIS THING NOW!

One new years eve in Boston, i had the pleasure to see DMZ live in a small little club. I bought the vinyl a few weeks later and wore out "Mighty Idy" a kick a song!! They never received any kind of commercial success, but they sure were fun when I saw them.
