Great!!! This isn't just a story about marriage and divorce. It's a story about how the love of God transforms hearts. It's a story about God's strength and love in a surrendered life. I read it straight through. I have been married for 33 years to my high school sweetheart. Even my marriage is strengthen by the truths in this book. I will be recommending it to all the women I counsel. Thank you Scruggs for sharing the story of your love for each other and for your God!

This review is from: I Do Again: How We Found a Second Chance at Our Marriage--and You Can Too (Paperback)
The book combines the real life story of the authors in their own voice. It also shows them counseling others. The story is amazing. It gives me hope for my own marriage. It is also terrifying, because my wife is ready to walk out on me, and nothing seems to be changing that course. Will I be the the one prayerfully waiting for God to move in her life. This book will warm your heart. It is a great story of redemption in marriage and in faith. It took me only a couple of hours to read the whole thing. If you are a Christian and you are considering divorce, read this, it will adjust your perspective. You will experience the torment, pain, and excitement as their story unfolds for you. It took them years to come back together, and God is using them to bless other peoples marriages right now.

This book should be read by anyone who is going through marriage struggles and has lost hope for reconciliation particularly in the case of infidelity. The book is very well written and is an open and transparent account of what Cheryl and Jeff experienced and how God saved their marriage. Cheryl and Jeff are able to share how the Lord showed them that the only way for them to reconcile was for them to surrender their lives and their marriage to Him. This is a wonderful message for all of us! Through this book and their ministry, Cheryl and Jeff continue to answer God's call to serve and glorify Him through their lives and their story.

5.0 out of 5 stars This story is my life to a T!, July 20, 2009

This review is from: I Do Again: How We Found a Second Chance at Our Marriage--and You Can Too (Paperback)
This book is AMAZING! I heard about this book on a Christian show and had to buy it, because this is EXACTLY what happened in my life!

I had an affair and left my husband. We got a divorce and after that, I found the Lord and ended the affair. Shortly after our divorce, God CLEARLY told me it was His will that my ex-husband and I get back together. "Ya, right!" I said. There was NO WAY my ex wanted anything to do with that idea. He hadn't found God at this point, but I continued to tell him, "I know it's God's will to bring our family back together."

Week after week, I would come home from church, call my ex-husband, and ask him to come over. God would put on my heart LOTS of things I needed to ask forgiveness for. Sometimes, he would be attentive, other times, he would be very standoff-ish and distant. I would ALWAYS follow-up with telling him that although I didn't see it happening, I felt it was God's will for us to reunite our family.

I became very discouraged off and on. I was very impatient at times and frustrated about the situation. God kept telling me to be patient, but it was so difficult! I said, "God, if this is Your will, please be BOLD and show me this is from You."

2 years went by and after 100s of prayers, 100s of talks with God and trusting in the Lord, my ex-husband approached me on a rainy Sunday and said, "I'm ready. I'm ready to get remarried and recommit to each other and our children! God has been speaking to me for the last few months and I can't ignore Him anymore. I still love you and have always loved you!"

Talk about being BOLD!!! God is soooo good! He CAN make miracles happen. This book is a perfect testimony to that, and so is my story. My ex-husband and I remarried a year ago and couldn't be more in love. Our children couldn't be more happy to have both of their parents in the same home. The difference, between this marriage and our first marriage is GOD. He HAS to be the center of your marriage. Seek Him, ask Him for help and guidance, and He will be there for you.

Amen!

I loved this book. I read it in two days because it was so good. I couldn't relate to all the situations in the book, but if you have been married for any amount of time you have experienced at least some of the feeling that are talked about. Thumbs up!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, August 4, 2011
This review is from: I Do Again: How We Found a Second Chance at Our Marriage--and You Can Too (Paperback)
I Do Again is a very unusual book. Not so much in that it is written by a husband and wife writing team (this is something that I see with increasing frequency) but in that it is written by a married couple that has married, divorced, and remarried. I strongly believe that the church is suffering from weak teaching on marriage and even worse church disciple and follow-through as couples professing Christ divorce as often as those who do not. That is why I Do Again is such a vitally important book. Whether you are single and planning to marry, are currently married, or are divorced, I highly recommend reading it.

The Scruggs married, pursued an active life as young professionals, and basically enjoyed themselves. When their daughters entered the picture however, things changed. The added stress of children on the marriage drove Cheryl into the arms of another man through her search to satisfy herself. After ten years of marriage, theirs ended in divorce. God however, had a plan to redeem their marriage, and after drawing both Cheryl and Jeff to Himself, he faithfully led them back towards each other over an extended period of time. Seven years later they remarried and dedicated their new union to the one who had saved not only them, but their marriage as well.

Written in alternating, chronological points of view, I Do Again is nothing if not raw. It is a very honest account of the emotional journey both Cheryl and Jeff took throughout their life together and apart from each other. If you are in a struggling marriage, reading through the pain of their divorce will definitely make you think twice before making the decision to split asunder what God has joined together. It is particularly valuable reading for women who tend to feel unhappy, emotionally unfulfilled, and discontent (don't we all feel this way from time to time) and who struggle with the temptation the world offers to `just be happy'. Divorce is not a happy thing.

This is an amazing joint memoir; it will serve as a stark reminder for the rest of my life that divorce is not God's will. I cried. Often. Don't be surprised if you do too. For those who have divorced I Do Again offers the hope that what is broken can be restored, and that with God all things are possible, even what is entirely impossible for man.

I received a print copy of this book to review. All opinions are genuine, and my own.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read, May 17, 2011

This review is from: I Do Again: How We Found a Second Chance at Our Marriage--and You Can Too (Paperback)
I am a law professor and my wife, Linda Rooks, is the author of Broken Heart on Hold: Surviving Separation. In between teaching such exciting courses as Franchise and Distribution Law and Payment Systems I co- lead with my wife Linda, a course at our Church, Marriage 911. The purpose of the course is to facilitate reconciliation for couples who are separated.

Linda frequently suggests that I read this marriage book or that one and I usually say, "ok put it on that stack over there and I will maybe get to it when I finish Grisham's latest novel."

Well, she walked in one day and said, "put down Grisham and read I DO AGAIN. It is like a very good romance novel." Now what self respecting lawyer would put down Grisham for a romance novel, but I wanted dinner that night so I did.

I was mesmerized and could not put it down. At first I started to grade it like one of my exams and it was an A+; but then the heart and vulnerability came leaping through the pages.

Jeff and Cheryl have bared their heart and souls and have a testimony that is a must read for not just those in troubled marriages but those who would endeavor to avoid troubled marriages.

The book is a work of art in writing but much more than that a revelation of a couple who got out of the way and let the Holy Spirit soar through them.

It is as if God Himself, breathe the words of encouragement through the pages of this book. The story of Jeff and Cheryl Scruggs will minister to any broken marriage no matter how bad it may seem. As I read their story, it was if I was reading my own. For those in a troubled marriage that seems beyond repair, I highly recommend this book. I found it to be very forward, hope filled, and inspirational. It gives marriage advice and counseling from a Biblical standpoint and challenges the reader to do that which is very difficult for must of us and this is self examination.
