5.0 out of 5 stars And I don't even like southern gospel
I admit I was a little hesitant about buying this CD. I don't care for any kind of music that has that twangy sound to it. But these four guys have such a powerful gift for music that I was simply amazed when I first listened to it. 3.0 out of 5 stars A VERY GOOD CD
THIS IS A VERY GOOD CD. ALL THE SONGS ARE SUPERB AND THE ALBUM IS VERY INSPIRATIONAL. THE HARMONY IS GOOD, BUT I THOUGHT THE HARMONY ON THE CD AND VIDEO "BACK HOME IN INDIANA" WAS EXCELLENT... JONATHAN PIERCE ON "BACK HOME IN INDIANA" HAD SUCH A GREAT VOICE THAT HIS VOICE BLENDS SO WELL WITH THE OTHER VOICES... HOWEVER, I RECOMMEND THIS CD AND...

5.0 out of 5 stars And I don't even like southern gospel, June 19, 2001
This review is from: I Do Believe (Audio CD)
I admit I was a little hesitant about buying this CD. I don't care for any kind of music that has that twangy sound to it. But these four guys have such a powerful gift for music that I was simply amazed when I first listened to it. Each song is perfectly crafted to at times bring out the different talents of each singer in the solo parts, while also demonstrating their incredible abilty to blend together as a group. For me the whole CD was worth it just for the song "More Than Ever." The music is strong and moving, the words are deep and provocative, while in every way giving all praise and glory to God. Mark Lowry himself said that this is probably the best CD the Vocal Band has done, and I have to say that I agree.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gaither Vocal Band, October 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: I Do Believe (Audio CD)
The Gaither Vocal Band. This group is my favorite quartet of all time. Being only 14 years old, you might think I sound crazy, but I'm not. I'd take Southern Gospel over anything anyday! And this cd is one of the best I've ever heard. The harmony is awesome, as always. Mr. Bill, Mark, Guy, and David have the best blending ability, seeing as they are no family relation. Families usually always have the best blending, but the Gaither Vocal Band has harmony better than any I've ever heard. And this cd really puts more on the phrase, "Boy, they can sing!"

5.0 out of 5 stars great, January 26, 2001
This review is from: I Do Believe (Audio CD)
Great cd, I like most southern gospel, but im very picky. I really only like male Quartets except for Greater Vision. But the GVB have the best harmony iv ever heard.Iv seen them in concert about twenty times and they get better and better. My only problem with groups today is I wish they would not use all the backup music, just a bass guitar and piano.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Line-Up Of The GVB Does It Again!, November 26, 2000

Another in a long string of powerful releases from the Gaither Vocal Band. This may be the best line up Gaither has had since the Vocal Band began as a "gimmick extra" at Bill Gaither Trio concerts. It is not hard to find that the Gaither Vocal Band is the #1 selling Male Gospel Quartet in America. Get this CD, put it in your player and be prepared for a great ride through nearly emotion and spiritual response possible. You will clap your hands, tap your feet, wipe a tear, but you will have a great time doing it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the Best!, November 4, 2004

This review is from: I Do Believe (Audio CD)
I have been a fan of the GVB for many years, since first hearing their rendition of "Let Freedom Ring" on a televised Homecoming special (you can get that track on the album GOD IS GOOD, by the way). I have CDs from the older group, and I have CDs from the new quartet with Russ Taff at Baritone -- but this has got to be my favorite, hands down. Mark Lowry has a rich, beautiful voice that is showcased wonderfully on this album. I miss his contribution to the group. The particular blend of David, Guy, Mark and Bill is tops - smooth, rich - powerful! There are only a couple of songs that I can do without on this album, and even they are good. But for wonderful harmony, inspiring lyrics - this album is a must!

"I Do Believe" is a powerful testimony to the true person of Jesus - "More Than Ever" is a moving story of the Christian walk -- "Oh What a Time" is a foot stomping, hand clapping wonderful time, all the way 'round (take a breath and hold that note with David!)"Hide Thou Me" has that old southern gospel sound, as does "The Love of God" - both are prime examples of David Phelps' incredible tenor voice! And what can you say about "Sinner Saved by Grace" - if you are a believer, this one will move you to tears. I cannot say enough good things about this CD. Buy it, listen, and love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars 10/10, December 30, 2002

I have been working as a music masterer in various studios for over 20 years. I have to say that this CD is among the finest creations I have ever heard...in any genre. The song selection is excellent. The talent blows me away. Many choirs would be lucky to have one of these men for every 50 members. As a masterer, I have dissected this CD countless times as I have listened from cover to cover at least 300 times. An excellent job with mastering with just one exception: at the end of the "I DO BELIEVE" solo by Mark Lowry, the piano finishes the song. The piano sounds distant, tinny, and just out of the mix. The rest of the CD is mixed, mastered, and recorded perfectly including microphone placement, mic volume, blend, instrumentation volume, general EQ, etc.

The finest Gaither CD ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars solid, July 7, 2005
This review is from: I Do Believe (Audio CD)
Unfortunately, this was the last (and only second) recording with Phelps on tenor, Penrod on lead, and Lowry on baritone. This was by far the best group GVB ever had, and for my money the best quartet of all-time. This CD delivers. Its not as strong as "God is Good," but it will definately get a lot of playing time!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a powerful performance!, December 28, 2005

This CD (and DVD purchased separately) is a treasure for sure. The combination of David, Guy, Mark, and Bill's voices is both astounding and powerful. David Phelps is a gift from God (I am not happy, though, that he left the Gaithers and Southern Gospel which truly complimented his Godly talent). Buy this CD, God is Good, and A Cappella to complete your collection of one of the finest quartets to ever walk the planet.

Do not hesitate! This is a modern quartet performing modern Southern Gospel, not something from the Lawrence Welk show! You will not be disappointed!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece, April 6, 2004
This review is from: I Do Believe (Audio CD)
This album should be entitled Mr. Gaither's Opus. There is no better Southern Gospel album ever created that tops this. I really can't say much more about this. The songs - perfect. The mix - perfect. The voices - perfect.
I am a firm believer that Gaither knows the true meaning of the perfect quartet sound...three tenors and a bass. He's not the best bass singer, but who cares when you surround yourself with three other amazing singers. This album is the best Gaither Vocal Band album ever. Unfortunately, it's now something they need to live up to.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREATEST GOSPEL /CONTEMPORY I'VE EVER HEARD, May 27, 2002
By
Trudy George (Monroe , Louisiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Do Believe (Audio CD)
I have been listening to clips during the past couple of weeks after viewing one of your homecomings on T.V. one night....I believe it was homecoming 2000...I heard a song , did not catch the name,.but was very upbeat and had the alpha and omega in it/
however, after listening to the piece entitled alpha and omega as as a clip on here tonight, discovered was not the same song.
I plan on going to my local musicstore tomorrow and listening to eveything I can find, in order to locate that song.

I really prefer the more "gospel" colabarations, although eveything, has inpired me to get back with my church,. and Choir. We did quite a few of your songs, and the Gaithers have been a recognized name to me for years , just never really "knew" all the Great things youhave accomplished, until I saw the show the other night. Thank you and Bless you All for bringing me back to the Lord. I shall now try and "locate" the song I am looking for tomorrow, even if I have to stay in the store all day, and buy every C.D. I HAVE to have that song, as I wish to learn it, and one day sing it in church! Thank you so much again, BLESS YOU ALL AND KEEP UP THE
GREAT WORK....I WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU IN CONCERT..DO YOU HAVE AN
ITINERARY? IF SO , COULD YOU SEND IT TO ME? TRUDY GEORGE
