5.0 out of 5 stars FUN! Easy for little kids to use, long-lasting, washable except florescent
We bought these paints when our child was 2 years old, and we still have the originals. They last a long time. The colors are bright, use is easy for little ones, and they are so much neater than fingerpaints. Our child does different kinds of art with these paints than she does with any other kind of paint or markers. She can "dot" the paint or use them somewhat...

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible pink stains!
These markers DO STAIN, especially the Magenta. My daughter is currently covered from elbows to fingertips and nothing will get it off. I was able to scrub it off my kitchen table with a lysol wipe. I don't have much hope for her shirt, though, and I wonder how long her arms will be stained pink. I don't recommend these for any age. Ink comes out really fast and keeps...

The colors are bright, use is easy for little ones, and they are so much neater than fingerpaints. Our child does different kinds of art with these paints than she does with any other kind of paint or markers. She can "dot" the paint or use them somewhat like markers. She has even used paintbrushes to soak the paint from the tops and paint. I have never had trouble washing the regular Rainbow colors off kids or clothing; however, I have had trouble washing the fushcia florescent color of this paint out of a white cotton dress that my child played in for 2 hours after painting. Faint fuschia stains remain. I recommend washing off paint immediately after use, and putting clothing in water to soak or wash immediately after. The instructions say that the flourescent colors may stain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cleanest painting supplies for little hands and keeps them busy!, July 8, 2007

These paints keep my almost 3-year-old son sitting in one place for up to an hour at a time, which pretty much nothing else will do. We bought the truck image book and we download pictures of his favorite characters, and then we make copies onto white cardstock and he has an unlimited supply of stuff to paint. We have never had any trouble getting any of the rainbow colors off of any piece of clothing or his skin or even the table that he paints on. Obviously, since they are paints you need to put a smock on your child and cover the table as well, but they are far less messy than usual paints. The tips to tend to rip a little if the paints are pulled across the paper instead of dotted. However, I contacted the company after one ripped and in an act of AMAZING customer service, they sent me replacement tips. Also, with all the fears about products made in China in the news lately, these are made in the USA. All of these qualities will keep us coming back.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun concept, but a little messy, March 10, 2007
This review is from: Do-A-Dot Rainbow Art Set (Set of 6) (Toy)
These are basically oversized markers with flat, circular tips that kids can use to make dots and dot-based patterns.

While these are fun for children, they are messier than normal washable markers. The red, pink, purple, and florescent colors are difficult to remove from clothing and other surfaces.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, August 24, 2006
This review is from: Do-A-Dot Rainbow Art Set (Set of 6) (Toy)
My kids love doing "dot art". And I love the easy clean up. It's very washable...I don't have to worry if some gets on the table. It just wipes right up with water. Nothing to spill, so it doesn't get all over clothes. It's a fun, no mess craft!

I just had to write a review after seeing the 1-star reviews that claimed that these stain horribly. I have a 9-year-old boy with moderate who loves these do-a-dot markers. He's VERY messy but I have never hesitated to let him use these. I have never had a problem washing the table or him.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 2-year old son loves these, February 17, 2010

We purchased two sets of Do-a-Dot markers: one regular colors and one brilliant colors. My 2-year old son loves coloring with them and uses them easily and surprisingly accurately. Markers say "washable" on the box, and the dye is easily removed from the hands by washing with warm water and soap - my son has no trace of the dye after his evening bath. However, I would recommend adult supervision to keep markers' dye off the upholstery, curtains, and clothes.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stains! DO NOT BUY! NOT WASHABLE, September 6, 2006
By
This review is from: Do-A-Dot Rainbow Art Set (Set of 6) (Toy)
Do not buy this product. Many of the colors do not come off your childs' skin, and the tiniest little drop will act like a dye and bleed all over everything. Will not wash out, just spreads over everything! Beware of false claims such as "WASHABLE." No more a kids product than a sharpie marker...yet even worse. Beware.

We got a set of these dot paints and a set of the Alex Dots and Dashes Paints at the same time. The Do-A-Dots definitely win. The bottles are soft enough for my toddler (2 years old) to squeeze them, while the Alex ones are too hard and too thick for him to use as easily. Some of the Alex ones also leaked, which is kind of a train wreak even if they are washable.

My son loves to paint with these on blank paper and in the two Do-A-Dot coloring books that we have. We use them on Melissa & Doug drawing pads, which works fine, though these can soak through that paper if he really puts a lot of paint down. The Do-A-Dot books have quite thick paper that is great for paints. I imagine they'd work fine with fingerpainting paper, though we haven't tried that. I find these fun to paint with, too! You can use them to make lines, not just dots, so it's a fantastic alternative to poster paints or finger paints if the mess of those is too much to deal with.

These paints are washable in the sense that they come out of clothes in the laundry without extra effort on my part. However, they do leave light stains on my son's skin when we just use a wipe to wash his hands - they require actual soap and a washcloth to clean all the way off skin. It doesn't bother me if he has light paint stains on him until bathtime, since he's often coated in much worse stuff. However, they're probably not a good thing to play with right before church or something!

Overall, I highly recommend these, especially if you have a younger toddler who enjoys arts and crafts but isn't quite coordinated enough for full-blown painting projects yet.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible quality., July 16, 2011
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Do-A-Dot Rainbow Art Set (Set of 6) (Toy)
I have had two sets of these given my kids at different times and they were a big disappointment. A great idea but these ones are essentially expensive bingo dabbers and the tips came off very quickly and the paint flowed everywhere.

I found Alex to make a much better version and they have lasted us a long time, despite the fact that they are much smaller than the do-a-dot ones. Although the do-a-dot books are good (thick paper, interesting themes), I have found the Melissa & Doug's Jumbo Coloring Pads to be excellent quality and over-all much better value considering their price point on amazon.
