Book Description

4 and upP and up

To-Do List inspires young and old not to take life too seriously. The “tasks” on Maya's to-do list range from the everyday—buy milk, be less messy, go on vacation, make friends, and no fighting—to the exceptional—dance like an octopus, hug flowers, star gaze, smile giant, eat sweets, and count clouds.

Each “task” is adorned with an ink drawing that has been painstakingly hand-rendered in astonishing detail. Soon enough, your own to-do list will include enjoying the novelties found on every page.

Maya Waldman is an illustrator of all things tiny and precise. She is currently spending a year in the Marshall Islands teaching children, swimming in a lagoon, lazing about in a hammock, and eating coconuts. When Maya isn’t traveling, she lives in San Francisco.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing art, wonderful imagination, November 5, 2007
This review is from: To-Do List (Hardcover)
I've seen an advance copy of the book and it's incredible. Maya's charm and imagination are evident in every single drawing, and the unique artistic style is absolutely delightful. The fine detail and patterns in the art are staggering when you realize how much work had to go into each one.

I think the book would be great for kids of any age, but also as a gift for friends, family, or anyone else you'd like to inspire or see smiling.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful and whimsical drawings & text..., May 29, 2008
This review is from: To-Do List (Hardcover)
I'm an elementary art teacher and I came about Maya's book. The drawings are incredible in and of themselves but what I really love about this book is that way Maya speaks to the reader like she is their friend. Cute little characters hold up signs saying "I like you", little squares and circles, and triangles dance with each other and I love how she introduces herself with a funny self portrait on the first page. It's only implied through the nuanced illustrations but to me the hidden gem of this book is the underlying message of love, friendship, joy of life, and a "let's all get along" togetherness.
Can't wait until her next book comes out!
