5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing art, wonderful imagination, November 5, 2007
This review is from: To-Do List (Hardcover)
I've seen an advance copy of the book and it's incredible. Maya's charm and imagination are evident in every single drawing, and the unique artistic style is absolutely delightful. The fine detail and patterns in the art are staggering when you realize how much work had to go into each one.

I think the book would be great for kids of any age, but also as a gift for friends, family, or anyone else you'd like to inspire or see smiling.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful and whimsical drawings & text..., May 29, 2008
This review is from: To-Do List (Hardcover)
I'm an elementary art teacher and I came about Maya's book. The drawings are incredible in and of themselves but what I really love about this book is that way Maya speaks to the reader like she is their friend. Cute little characters hold up signs saying "I like you", little squares and circles, and triangles dance with each other and I love how she introduces herself with a funny self portrait on the first page. It's only implied through the nuanced illustrations but to me the hidden gem of this book is the underlying message of love, friendship, joy of life, and a "let's all get along" togetherness.
Can't wait until her next book comes out!

5.0 out of 5 stars My to-do list: Write a review of to-do list, April 12, 2008
This review is from: To-Do List (Hardcover)
Author and illustrator, Maya Waldman, spent a year teaching English on the Marshall Islands. I think it must have taken her a year to illustrate this well-made tiny tome. I love this book from the red-tape spine and yellow cover to the intricate black ink drawings that illustrate to-do list. Maya encourages readers to make their own to-do list and seek out adventure of their own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing drawings, November 4, 2007
This review is from: To-Do List (Hardcover)
Maya's illustrations are indeed tiny and precise. I am so happy to finally be able to purchase a book of her work after seeing individual drawings for several years.

This book is teh bomb (not to be confused with teh crab)

5.0 out of 5 stars What a charming book, April 17, 2008
This review is from: To-Do List (Hardcover)
Maya Waldman is an anthropologist who has visited 40 countries, loves tiny orderly things, and has written a perfect book for children or adults. She makes a tedious task into a joy and an inspiration.

Waldman's ink drawings and text offer an amusing riff on structuring life: she lists tasks for the reader, numbered 1-20, ranging from "make friends" to "speak pineapple" and "dance like an octopus."

4N Publishing is an indie publisher who has generously allowed readers to preview the whole book on the 4n website. Waldman's own website -- Micronomicon! -- reproduces her notebooks from her travels.

This is a great book to cheer you up on a cloudy day, to read with kids to brighten both your days, and to give to friends -- they will thank you for it.
