5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK!
Finally...a book for someone like me!
I'm not overweight, not looking for a diet or exercise plan like so many other body books give. I have body image issues and God Bless Rhonda for writing a book that speaks to accepting and loving our bodies!
I loved every page, it was so helpful.

2.0 out of 5 stars An unsatisfying mix of memoir and advice

2.0 out of 5 stars An unsatisfying mix of memoir and advice, August 14, 2006
I believe this book would have worked better if the author had written a more personal book, or a more traditional advice book. As is , it is an unsatisfying mixture of both, with neither aspect very fulfilling.

The goal of the book is admirable, but I found the advice to be overly simplistic and often repetitive. The personal parts of the book frequently come off as being a plug for the author's tv show and and I found this annoying. Whenever specific people from the show are brought up, it is with so little context that these anecdotes contribute little to the book.

The most interesting part of the book is the photos of women with brief comments on their attitudes about their bodies. These women barely figure in the text of the book, I'd have liked the book more if the focus was more on these women than the author's personal experiences. This focus on the personal might have worked in a different kind of book, but in this case it limits the usefulness of the book to others.

Rhonda writes in honesty, and from her heart. She shares her own feelings and experiences...I find courage in that!

I just got this book today, and after about 5 hours I read it cover to cover. I couldnt put it down! Rhonda is brutally honest in this book about her struggles with her body and it connects her to the rest of the world. By the end of this book she will feel like your best friend. I see now where my body has held me back in life, but even better I have a guide now on how to change it! My body will become my best friend! Thank you Rhonda!!!

I'm so excited about this book! Once I picked it up I couldn't put it down. I was captivated. Rhonda is 100% honest and vulnerable in sharing with us her own personal body image issues. She is one of us, a friend, relating and connecting with us as no other author does. She is brilliant! I will never again think of my body the same way. I love my body now. Thank you Rhonda! What a gift you have given to us. Bj Garnaus

This review is from: Do I Look Fat In This?: Get Over Your Body and On With Your Life (Mass Market Paperback)
I very much enjoy the book. Rhonda Britten is a very gifted person who can help all kinds of women who are struggling with all kinds of issues. this book just hit me where I was struggling in myself. Before I bought the book I always wondered how this book could really help me. To my surprize I was amazed how down to earth Rhonda is.It doesn't matter how I look. I have a zest for life and now is the time to live it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Do I look fat in this?, February 1, 2009
Very similar thread to Rhonda's Fearless Living Books and yet as you get further into the book it becomes more meaningful, as far as weight and image are concerned.

This book really helped me to work thru my body issues especially as I'm losing weight. I'm not as self-conscious of how I look or what I'm wearing or what do they think of me. It's so liberating!

I like Rhonda, I looooooved Starting Over and wished I could be on the show. My friend and I worked on the exercises in the book, and suddenly I saw I wasn't "that" horrible. I'll never like my belly and inner thighs, but I appreciated my body for carrying me and functioning right. I recommend you see "The Real Dirty Dancing" while reading this book. It's a short documentary about 5 young Londoners taking burlesque classes -- and it's all about loving your body as it is.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a weight loss book!, January 14, 2008
This is not a weight loss book, but it is a self-help book. You will be taken on a journey of self-love and self-acceptance. Rhonda presents simple strategies for accepting what you can not change and changing what you can. A great read with real stories about real people.

3.0 out of 5 stars A decent effort, November 19, 2007

(VINE VOICE)
I do not watch TV, so I was not familiar with her work on "The Starting Over House" until I read this book. I had caught the show once or twice while traveling, so I quickly made the connection between the life coach I'd seen, and the author. Rhonda writes in a personal, easy-to-read style that makes her readers feel like she's sitting down with them over a skinny latte at the local Starbucks. She puts up no pretensions, and readily shares her less-than-glamorous personal history and struggles.

The strengths of this book are Rhonda's approachability and sound advice. Where it falls a bit short is I feel it tries to do too much at once. Rhonda's personal struggles are interspersed with those of the participants in The Starting Over House and the women who shared their feelings about their bodies for the photos at the beginning of each chapter. I think the book would have been stronger if she had stuck to one approach -- just her own stories, or just those of the clients she's helped. Instead, I felt a little like a pingpong ball, zipping between one story here and Rhonda's story there.

All that said, Rhonda's message is simple and clear: You can live in the NOW, or you can put off your "real life" until you lose five, ten, fifteen, or more pounds. The life in that future time is less important than your life in the here and now, so you may as well get moving.

Thank you, Rhonda, for sharing your story so honestly. You will help a lot of people.
