5.0 out of 5 stars Freddie Jackson: the epitome of soulful cool!
Once upon a time in the music industry singers released albums that were chock filled with hits. These were not "greatest hits" packages; they were just craftily and artfully produced recordings showing the singer in all his/her glory.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too many dull ballads here!
Freddie Jackson's Do Me Again is just too dull in most places. Most of the songs sound just like stuff from his 1985, 1986 and 1988 albums. Love Me Down sounds too 1985 to me, it's scary! And don't tell about the bland Do Me Again--it sounds so faceless and the music lacks feeling. Main Course sounds so cheesy and dinky sounding--did someone play that on some cheap $50...

Once upon a time in the music industry singers released albums that were chock filled with hits. These were not "greatest hits" packages; they were just craftily and artfully produced recordings showing the singer in all his/her glory.

"Do Me Again" is a perfect example of that trend. The soulful Mr. Jackson shows why he is one of the best "crooners" in R & B history. He is perfection on the following bedroom-friendly tunes: "Love Me Down," "Main Course," the title cut, "Second Time for Love," and "All Over You".

Even on the faster cuts ("It Takes Two," "Don't Say You Love Me," and "I Can't Take It"), the singer is definitely at home with the respective tempos.

Where's a good singer when you need one? Not on the current popular charts.

This 1990 release was Freddie's fourth solo album. While I agree with the other reviewers that some of the songs sound too similar they were, in fact, much better than what other artists were releasing at the time. While not released as singles, my three favorite tracks are the ballads "Second Time For Love", "Live For the Moment" and the mid-tempo groover "It Takes Two". Freddie was still at his peak vocally and he does not disappoint (although the production values are at times questionable).

Main Course sounds so cheesy and dinky sounding--did someone play that on some cheap $50 keyboards from some flea market? It Takes Two's pseudo-disco sound doesn't help either. But songs like Live For the Moment and Second Time For Love are okay and break away from the '80s similarities of his early hits. Do Me Again sounds so very complacent and stagnant, nothing new to break away from the pattern of his early hits. The Paul Laurence-produced songs are easily the worst that he's done for Freddie and the Barry Eastmond-produced efforts are missing something. I find his other albums far better than this piece of mediocre tripe!
