More About the Author

Jessica Arnold was born in Owosso, Michigan in 1999. She enjoys writing and illustrating stories for young children and her peers. Her first book, I am Good at Lots of Things was started when she was just seven and completed when she was twelve. Jessica was a hit on Amazon at the age of twelve with I am Good at Lots of Things. Her book about bullying Nobody Can Take My Happy Away sometimes surpasses traditionally published titles in popularity. At the age of fourteen, Jessica simply writes what she feels her peers would like to hear on a number of topics.

Jessica's first book was something her mother encouraged her to write. I am Good at Lots of Things was a story she began writing and illustrating when she was just seven. She was upset by the challenges she faced at school. She was reminded that we are all individuals with different talents, and she wanted to share that. Jessica is inspired to write by her own personal experiences. Her stories often begin with ordinary circumstances such as going to the optometrist for glasses or playing video games. If something resonates with Jessica, she begins with her notebook and pencil, framing out her story page by page. Next, she begins illustrating the story with color pencils or water color. Her expressive artistic style is unique to anything seen before.

Jessica's fictional characters evolve in every story. Jessica's characters face difficulties, disabilities and emotional challenges, but they always prevail, inform and unite people. Jessica wrote a story about being thankful for the gifts that she had been given instead of thinking about what she wasn't good at. Jessica feels that book publishing has a bright future because it is now open to a more diverse group of writers. She is honored to have the opportunity to be a young author who can write and speak directly to young readers and inspire them.

Tots in tiaras, teen moms, and every young girls magazine in print pressure young teens and those in transition between childhood and their teens that if they're not dating then something is wrong with them. This leads to young ladies (as well as young men) into making poor life decisions that in most cases negatively impact their lives for years to come. "Do not awake passion before it's due time" is a good proverb and could be the mantra of this book. It's refreshing to see that someone is encouraging the idea that it's alright to be a kid; adulthood with all its worries will happen soon enough, fear not.

I chose 5 star rating because I'm thirteen and I keep asking myself that same question but I just didn't have anyone to talk to about that

Well I would definitely recommend this book for some of my friends that are stressing on our this stuff. I think that it needs a little more detail and I liked it also because it is a book that would help a girl about that stuff. So over all I thought it was good.

It's amazing. The book would be a very good role model for young girls. They need these kind of books in the world today.

I myself always wondered why kids in elementary and middle school focus so much on dating. Even when I was a kid and tween myself, I thought it was stupid that kids got so caught up in these immature relationships that really don't stand much of a chance of lasting anyhow. That is why I always knew I wanted to wait until at least high school to start dating. The ending of this story might have been a bit overly optimistic and unrealistic (since there is pretty much no way that you will convince most love-stricken kids that they are too young to date), but it was still a good read and makes a good point.

Hott Review:
Do I Need a Boyfriend? may not ever become a literary classic but I think that it’s an essential read for middle-grade girls! This book clearly depicts the crazy emotions and confusion of adolescence in an honest and naive way that many girls – and their moms – will appreciate & enjoy.
It’s a perfect conversation starter for those with rocky relationships and those who know there’s more but can’t remember what more to discuss.
I especially liked this book because it’s not a Christian book but is still showing our pre-teens that it’s okay to just be themselves and to not let boys define them.
