Perfect, Sexy Erotica,
This review is from: Do Not Disturb: Hotel Sex Stories (Paperback)
I'm amazingly impressed. I've read tons of erotic anthologies like this one, and this is the only one to be downright erotic and sometimes just a great read. All of the stories focus on sex in hotels, but unlike other novels, Rachel chose to use some amazing stories in this anthology. For example, we actually get to read a story about a girl with OCD and her husband where they try to escape to hotel rooms to avoid the germs so they can actively have sex. Or we read a story about a woman who, after being nagged by her boyfriend, agrees to have a threesome with another women, but once the two women start, they completely ignore the guy after he starts acting like an idiot, and instead, we get to focus on the two girls' pleasures. Overall, an amazingly collection that has tugged my emotions all the way from "aww" to aroused. I'm amazingly, amazingly impressed.

Not Now, I'm busy reading.,

Knock knock knock. Not now, I'm busy. I'm trying to read.
Can't you see the sign hanging on the doorknob? DO NOT DISTURB. Well, if you're reading "Do Not Disturb: Hotel Sex Stories", edited by Rachel Kramer Bussel, you might not want to be interrupted, but you won't be falling asleep, especially if you're not alone. These twenty stories will have you itching to pack your bags. Bring a friend, or meet one. Or a stranger for that matter. All the stories are first class, though like hotel stays, they're all different. Here's some that I especially enjoyed. Maxim Jakubowski's "G Is for Gypsy" is delightfully melancholy. A man who travels a lot has been given a room with memories. "So, here I sit in room 411 of the Palace Hotel. I am naked. I am pitiful." Oh, but he's not watching the Discovery Channel. In Kristina Wright's "The Other Woman", a guy's ménage a trois fantasy birthday request has an wonderfully unexpected outcome. "Oh, hon, don't thank me. You are delicious." Tess Danesi's "The Royalton - A Daray Tale" has us following right along with the directions. "5) At 5:00, put on the blindfold, put a set of handcuffs around both wrists, and secure your left arm to the back rail of the chair. Wait." Nobody is disappointed. "Reunion" is Lisabet Sarai's masterful tale of long-time lovers meeting up for some quality time together after a few years separation. "I'll get you whipped into shape in no time." There's so many more rooms to explore - you can get "Tightly Tucked" (Alison Tyler), enjoy some "Room Service" (Donna George Storey), spend "Hump Day" (Rachel Kramer Bussel) or "The Lunch Break" (Saskia Walker). "It's So Simple a Place" (Isabelle Gray) for "Talking Dirty" (Shanna Germain). Oh, and so much more. Okay, okay. I'm done - you can come in now.

Sex with a theme, not a theme with sex,
By Rollerslut (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Do Not Disturb: Hotel Sex Stories (Paperback)
Often when you read a collection of themed erotica, you find that the stories focus much more on the theme (such as politics or science) than on the sex. While the theme may be interesting, you're often left unsatisfied by the erotic nature of the stories. In Do Not Disturb, Rachel Kramer Bussel has taken a theme that is almost synonymous with sex and added more sex. It works out beautifully. All of the stories have the cohesive hotel setting, but each explores it in a unique and very erotic way. As with any collection, a few of the stories didn't do much for me, but most of the adventures in this book were hot enough to make me read one-handed. A few of them even gave me a few naughty ideas to try out. Do Not Disturb is one of the better erotic collections out there, and possibly the best themed collection I've read yet.

This had some variety and spice, which is the best part of an anthology collection. I'd recommend it. Would be really fun to have this on hand if you are actually staying in a hotel!

Some great stories, but a few I could have done without,
By Alyssa "Alyssa" (San Francisco, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Do Not Disturb: Hotel Sex Stories (Paperback)
I did really love a few of the stories in this anthology. The concept of it was fun: what can people do in hotels that they wouldn't do at home, surrounded by the markers of daily life? I haven't had a whole lot of sex in hotels, and this was a fun way to live vicariously.
I liked Tightly Tucked by Alison Tyler for its audacity. Memphis by Gwen Masters almost made me want to have an affair with someone who's taken, just for how well it captured the frisson of taboo in that situation. Talking Dirty by Shanna Germain was a sweet story, and I thought Reunion by Lisabet Sarai was a sexy story while still being emotionally charged. Hump Day by Rachel Kramer Bussel herself was fun; I usually like her writing, and this was no exception. All that said, I think Greta Cristina had a point when she recently said that the flood of available erotica books means that there is less consistent quality in the stories published. I think it's a good thing that you can walk into big book stores and buy sexy stories easily as pie, but this book has a couple examples of stories that weren't as fleshed out or well-written. The St. George Hotel, 1980 was a little rushed and implausible, Heart Shaped Holes read to me like a caricature of an erotic story, and a few more were just kind of bland. Overall, though, this book is worth buying and reading for the excellent stories that are in it, and I'm sure other people will have different favorites. The good thing about an anthology is you can always just skim or skip the stories you don't like.

A suitcase must have,
By Alisandra (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Do Not Disturb: Hotel Sex Stories (Paperback)
Rachel Kramer Bussel writes in her introduction that she hopes the reader will take this collection of erotica on his or her next travel adventure. I agree that "Do Not Disturb" should be a must have in your suitcase, whether traveling alone or with a partner. Rachel Kramer Bussel has selected a great collection of stories. I look forward to re-reading many of these stories from under hotel sheets, on a hotel balcony overlooking the beach, or in a hotel lobby with a cocktail.
The book has a range of stories about affairs, threesomes, one-night stands, and fantasies all set in hotel rooms, lobbies, bars, and pools. Some, like Tess Danesi's "The Royalton -- A Daray Tale," will inspire naughty and titillating sex games of your own. And others, like "The Other Woman" by Kristina Wright and "An Honest Woman" by Tenille Brown have strong character development that keep you intrigued about the stories end and beyond. "Talking Dirty" by Shanna Germain is exceptionally good. To give a summary would ruin the suspense. The title made me think about raunchy phone sex, but the story is about a whole other kind of dirty. The story is honest, sexy, romantic, and different from any erotica I have ever read. After you book your next hotel, or before, purchase this book.

Behind Closed Doors...,
By Akron Reader "kdtoles" (Akron, OH United States) - See all my reviews

Yet again RKB has come out with a hot and sexy collection of stories that definitely pleases. For me, these stories are meant to be enjoyed in single servings, perusing one, lingering over it, finding someone to enjoy it with before moving on to the next. My favorite of the collection is "The Royalton - A Daray Tale"... a very hot mix of submission, anticipation and mystery. But all of the tales have something to offer, some kinkier than others, but all satisfying.

Amazingly erotic,
This review is from: Do Not Disturb: Hotel Sex Stories (Paperback)
I'm in awe, again, of RKB's books. In the past I've owned some erotica complication books and found myself skipping numerous stories throughout. That did not happen here. There was only one not to my personal liking but I still read it.
Rachel chose awesome stories by talented writers. How good was it? Well....I purposely lingered with my book, dividing it up into (only) 3 reading sessions. Halfway through each session I was holding the book with only one hand, if you get my drift. After, well, that might be a story for another of her books ;) I will pay attention more whenever I stay in hotels, and I am looking forward even moreso to a future rendezvous with a lover - I'm hoping we'll give the people nearby something to remember! I know I'll be channeling a few characters in these stories and suggesting a few scenarios for my partner and I to try. Buy it! Buy all Rachel's books!

You can't get this quality on Best Western's PPV.,
By sherpa (Brooklyn, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Do Not Disturb: Hotel Sex Stories (Paperback)
In this month's Esquire (Apr 09), Mary-Louise Parker advocates steamy semi-public romance in a hotel hallway (as well as in front of the elevator bank, and in the icebox alcove). But what that short column lacks in graphic, hormone-inducing description and detail (though the thought of catching Parker at the Mariott...oh my) Bussel's DO NOT DISTURB fulfills. Each page turning story, from Saskia Walker's thrilling "Memphis" to Bussel's own steamy tale of control, will make you reconsider how you spend your next layover in Philly, or one-night stop in a Dallas motel. Trust me, that's a good thing.
