I have an outdoor spotlight with it's own dusk-to-dawn sensor built in, but every year, the sensor stops working and I have to buy a new one. This time, I couldn't find this product in the local stores. So I did some research on the internet and found this outdoor timer. My spotlight plugs right into it, and the timer plugs right into my extension cord. Works great so far - even better than the sensor that used to work on my spotlight.

The instructions tell you to hang this timer, but I didn't have anywhere nearby to hang it, so I just have it leaning up against a shrub that is near the spotlight, and so far so good.

One thing to keep in mind if you buy this - after a power outage, you may have to reset the mode of the timer - you do this by just hitting the green button until you get the setting you want (for me, it's "d" for dust to dawn). Also - hard to see the settings on the little display screen in daylight, but very easy to see at night.

Well so far so good on this Timer. My grandmother uses it to turn on and off her outside light from dusk till dawn. It works like a charm. The outdoor light doesn't effect the photo cell (which I was worried about) and it only turns on and off with the sun. She leaves this plugged in 24 hours a day so I hope the longevity of this timer is good.

The only thing I don't like is when the power goes out, the timer resets to the off position. I guess this is a safety feature.

UPDATE: 8 months later and still works like a charm.

Update 2: Added a star. 6 years later still works great.

I'd definitely buy this again.

Over the years, I have used timers ranging from mechanical, single power outlet to electronic, digital, photocell timers with multiple outlets both at work and at home. During a recent trip, shopping at a local hardware store I saw and bought one of these units, my curiosity raised by the combination of price and the versatility claimed. For a good part of my 78 years, I used cutting edge medical technology, and I take a perverse joy in pushing a system to its limit to see if it is as good as claimed.

In short: This timer is! And it is so reliable that I decided to replace several of our existing timers, outdoor as well as indoor, with this item. In searching Amazon, I was referred to [...] where I found the item and ordered several <[...]>. I do note today that the on-line price has increased somewhat.

The instructions for the timers we had bought in the past for outdoor holiday use specify that they should not be in service for more than a month or two. The first one I purchased has operated flawlessly for seven months. I intend that the new timers will run until they fail, saving more in energy costs than their purchase price.

We bought this timer for our pond but are no using it for the Christmas lights. The handy thing about this product is its past dusk timer. Right now we have ours set to turn off after 7 hours. I'd buy this one again.
