4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Balance, March 15, 2005
This review is from: Do As I Say, Not As I Did!: Gaining Wisdom In Business Through The Mistakes Of Highly Successful People (Paperback)
Ms. Frank's book is a wonderful balance of numerous important characteristics. First off, it is a great combination of the business side and personal side to each story. This is a nice mix that effectively educates and amuses everyone from the business novice to the seasoned entrepreneur. Secondly, her book provides just enough technical details so that you can understand each situation without having too much information to bog you down or leave you bored. Finally the book provides you with insightful lessons, clearly laid out, without being another self-help book that is left sitting unopened on your bookshelf. I recommend this book to anyone that is considering starting their own business, owns their own business, or is close to someone that owns their own business. Learning the lessons taught in this delightful book is money well spent, even at many times its' cost.

This review is from: Do As I Say, Not As I Did!: Gaining Wisdom In Business Through The Mistakes Of Highly Successful People (Paperback)
Although this book was published in 2006 it contains a lot of good success and failure stories. It's nice to know even some of the smartest business people make mistakes too! It would be interesting to know how the businesses reviewed in this book are doing today, after the market collapse.

If you're a business owner or thinking of getting into business this book could potentially save you millions of dollars. Although some of the experiences are only applicable to Americans it's worth reading no matter what country you live in. It's incredible how seemingly ordinary situations and people can turn into mega-disasters. Make sure it doesn't happen to you!

4.0 out of 5 stars I Almost Loved It!, April 18, 2007

After attending a seminar where Carol Frank was a guest speaker, I purchased the book. While it has many good examples of business mistakes, I thought she could have gone a little more in depth when it came to the solutions of the problems. My other minor complaint is that she focused on too many local businesses from her home state of Texas, and not enough on national companies. Overall, it was a good book, though not one I'd likely read a second time.

5.0 out of 5 stars I learned a lot!, March 26, 2005
This review is from: Do As I Say, Not As I Did!: Gaining Wisdom In Business Through The Mistakes Of Highly Successful People (Paperback)
This book will help anyone that is running a business, whether a for-profit or (as in my case) a non-profit! I learned a lot from this book about what I was doing correctly and what I needed to change and/or beware of. This book also reinforced the changes I had made to my business were in the best interest of my business.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do As I Say, Not As I Did!; Gaining Wisdom in Business Throu, March 4, 2005
This review is from: Do As I Say, Not As I Did!: Gaining Wisdom In Business Through The Mistakes Of Highly Successful People (Paperback)
If I had read this book six years ago and taken its advice, I could of saved thousands of dollars and had fewer headaches. Great case studies I could relate too. Reading about successful people's larger mistakes made me feel grateful for my past errors and more savvy for future challenges.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved by the book..., March 2, 2005
This review is from: Do As I Say, Not As I Did!: Gaining Wisdom In Business Through The Mistakes Of Highly Successful People (Paperback)
The business failures in this book made mine look insignificant! I learned some great lessons at other peoples' expense. This book gave me a vicarious education in the school of hard-knocks...much more enjoyable that way! Thank you, Carol Frank.

5.0 out of 5 stars Save yourself blood sweat and tears, March 2, 2005

If you are thinking about making the leap to self-employment, save yourself blood sweat and tears by reading this book. I picked up the book and stayed up far into the night until I had read it all. Carol Frank takes years of accumulated "own your own business" boondoggles, fiascos and mistakes and condenses into a book that is humorous and delightful. It illustrated exactly what not to do and why it is important to act against natural inclinations sometimes to succeed.
