Book Description

May 1, 2012
According the Bell Curve, most people are average. But who wants average? Would you want an average car mechanic, an average meal, or worse yet, an average brain surgeon? Didn't think so. But you don't have to settle for average when success is only two steps away.

Based on the idea that excellence is the key to success in most aspects of life and death (in a pre-death kind of way)--Do It Well. Make It Fun. is a refreshing take on taking excellence to new heights.

In this entertaining, practical guide Ron provides an easy-to-implement two-step process that will lead to greater success in your career and your life: (1) Do it Well, and (2) Make it Fun. By applying this formula, you'll learn how to spice up boring meetings, relax in stressful situations, neutralize interoffice conflict, add zest to dull relationships, make project management a bit more enjoyable--and more.

Drawing from life observations and experiences, Ron shares hilarious anecdotes and serious lessons he has learned from his years as a social worker, middle manager, and senior leader. Ron's simple suggestions will help you take life fun day at a time to revitalize your routines, your relationships, and to achieve greater success.

Editorial Reviews

Review

''What a great alternative to Do It Good Enough. Try Not To Hate It, which is the book most of the world lives by. Ron's book helps you reframe real life in a fun way. I'm better for having read it!'' --Larry Winget, five-time bestselling author and television personality, including the #1 bestseller Shut Up, Stop Whining and Get A Life!

''Using his trademark humor, Ron Culberson has written a book that is simple in its message but powerful in its impact. Do it Well. Make It Fun. gives you the ideas and tools you need to do both--and you really will have fun reading this engaging book about how to increase the excellence and enjoyment in your life.'' --Mark Sanborn, CSP, CPAE, and author of The Fred Factor and You Don't Need a Title to Be a Leader

''Do it Well. Make it Fun. is a simple, easily consumed blueprint for fun AND fortune as it combines those personal habits that drive success while making the journey a joy ride along the way. I would recommend it to every overstressed, undersmiled colleague of mine.'' --Knox Singelton, CEO, Inova Health System

3.0 out of 5 stars Left me wanting more May 3, 2012
Format:Hardcover
Reading this book, I hoped to find more about success in life in general... but mostly what I found was about finding fulfillment in the daily grind. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing at all against making the most of fulfilling our responsibilities. We all need to do it. And really enjoying one's job, etc., is certainly a skill vital to having a great life. But when it comes to living -- just living -- there's more to life than "spicing up meetings."

And that's where this book left me feeling a bit left down. I think what it comes down to is this: Culberson makes a lot of assumptions that I and many others simply don't agree with. What he takes as the basic framework of life -- meetings, taxes, even having a job at all -- many others have managed successfully to do without. Take, for example, the inspiring story of the man who walked across America, I Walked to the Moon and Almost Everybody Waved: The Curiously Inspiring Adventures of a Free Spirit Who Changed Lives by Ed Carlson.

So if you are simply looking for a nice read on how to make the most of the rat race, I recommend Do It Well Make It Fun. But if you are looking for something more substantial that really digs in and questions common assumptions, I recommend looking somewhere else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zig Ziglar meets Dave Barry equals a Great Read April 25, 2012
Format:Hardcover
People learn the most when they're in the spirit of fun. That's the magic behind Culberson's book. I got so swept up in the fun stories and clever analogies, I didn't realize how much I was learning.

This is not just a book for health care professionals. I'd suggest this for anyone in a leadership or supervisory role.

By Dena

About 5 years ago I overcame my fetish that books must remain pristine and started underlining and highlighting key concepts, ideas, and paragraphs that I wanted to remember or come back to. That's a useful trick except in the case of this book, where I pretty much highlighted every word on every page. Ron Culberson has written a funny, PRACTICAL, and powerful book. I know Ron as a good writer but this book is a whole new level. I'm on my second read and plan on going back a third time to mine all the rich material in here. What makes the book are the personal stories and examples Ron shares--absolutely hysterical but also things that any average Joe can relate to. I plan on buying multiple copies of this book to pass out to family and friends. I'm pretty much a cheapskate with my money, so this says volumes about what I think about this book. Go read it. Now.

Ron Culberson really gets it right. He even passed the new book test. Brilliant content after page 50. We've all bought a new book and been excited to read it only to have it start to repeat the same thoughts after the first few pages. In fact I found the content on page 70 to be "BRILLIANT" which is past 50 and even past the middle of the book. Bravo Mr. Culberson. Way to right a funny, touching, compelling book that we all can relate to. Do It Well. Make It Fun.: The Key to Success in Life, Death, and Almost Everything in Between

1.0 out of 5 stars Great title, Poor content July 4, 2012
Format:Hardcover
One of my talents is NOT having fun at work or celebrating success, even though I know it is important. Therefore, I purchased this book seeking practical advice. The author's bio says he is president of the national speakers association. That success did not translate to the written word. I found this book to be fluff using catchy chapter titles ... Unlike a Steak, a Project Well Done is Rare. It sucked me in, I bought it and I'm sorry I did.
