Beautiful Christmas Album. Heather, Cookie and Raylene have once again shared their beautiful voices with us. Their versatility is very apparent as they shift from the traditional carols like "Angels We Have Heard On High" and "Do You Hear" to the Gaelic "Taladh Chriosda" and "A' Challuinn" to the contemporary songs like "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" and an almost Cajun sounding "Children Go Where I Send You".This disk is definately worth buying.

The Rankin Family is the obvious choice for pure celtic music unadulterated by commercial input. If you love celtic fiddling and guitar, it is here as well!

This is a must for anyone's Christmas collection. It is sure to take you back to the childhood memories of snow, hot chocolate, warm fires and snow, snow, snow. I really love listening to the old Gaelic language even though I don't understand it; it is beautiful.

Charming but overproduced,

I discovered the Rankin Sisters on YouTube when researching the Gaelic Christmas song "Taladh Chriosda" and absolutely fell in love with their television performance of the song. Sadly, that video is no longer available. I purchased the album to have a permanent copy, and have to say I was a little disappointed. Although their singing is lovely, it's not well served by the heavy, overproduced instrumentation. Part of what makes the Rankins' singing enjoyable is the folksy interplay of voices, and that just seemed to be drowned out. I'd have preferred an a cappella recording, or a leaner accompaniment on traditional instruments like an unamplified fiddle or harp. Instead, the result is a bit like a muzak version... fine, but not hauntingly lovely as when I first heard them.
