Nettwork's Yearly Indie Christmas,
By Frinklin "No, Really Frinklin" (San Diego) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Do You Hear What I Hear? (MP3 Download)
The previous reviewer seems to be basing everything on the title of the album. This is most certainly not a 50's collection with Johnny Mathis. This is Nettork Records second annual Christmas release of (mostly) chestnuts performed by (mostly) indie acts. It's a very pleasant, very adult alternative station-ready collection with a few absolute standouts like Leigh Nash and Gabe Dixon's clear-voiced rendition of "Baby It's Cold Outside", the Clumsy Lovers bluegrass-inspired take on "Welcome Christmas" and Sarah McLachlan's shiny, soaring "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day." This collection would be fine background music for any young, upper-middle class Christmas party.

Do You Remember the Goodyear Albums?,
By D. Allen "Mr. Mojorisin" (North Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Do You Hear What I Hear (Audio CD)
Unfortunately, Amazon has combined both the future and past reviews of two different CD's of the same title. This review is for Do You Hear What I Hear?, not Do You Hear What I Hear? Unless Amazon corrects the problem, you'll have to choose the reviews that are relevant to the CD or MP3 you're looking at.
This CD contains 15 Christmas classics from CBS/Columbia Records stable of artists back in the sixties. What attracted me was the fact that most, if not all, of the songs were released on the much-loved Goodyear Christmas album series back then. The CD made its debut in 1985, and was one of the first Christmas CD's I ever purchased, although back then it had a different cover. If you liked the Goodyear series, you'll want to get this one. |
