5.0 out of 5 stars A great guide, February 6, 2008

What I love about this book is every chapter targets a specific behavior -about you or someone you deal with. Pick any chapter and get a two page summary of common sense practices that are easy to apply in every day life. You don't wind up thinking "that's a great idea, but what do I do to get there?" Mike tells you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book to keep on the bedside table, May 26, 2008

This book is like a "Coles Notes" for the teachings of Stephen Covey. It is well written, clear and concise (which, as the author points out, are not the same thing.) I recommend this book as a great airplane read, or a book to keep on the bedside table for dipping into when things feel a little fuzzy in your life. On the other hand, it is no substitute for the great textbooks on personal development and goal setting.

This book is full of often profound nuggets you can use to get more out of life. Its short chapters can be worked into any busy schedule and provide great suggestions to make your own life happier and more meaningful and to share when coaching others...co-workers or even your children.

I don't know about you, but I can get lost in the verbose nature of some books and regardless of how great the message it doesn't matter cause it's tough to get to. What I love about this book is that it's concise and to the point. Mike gets to the bottom line and is clear in his message about issues that impact us all on a day to day basis. He's also designed it to be a fantastic reference (with bullet points at the end of each chapter) if you just need a little refresher on that particular topic. This book has great content & delivery & Mike is funny...love it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mike Staver hits a home run for anyne who wants to get more out of life., February 7, 2008

WOW! I think there are 3 things that a "life changing" book has to have to be effective.
1. Must be an entertaining read. In this day of instant gratification...."DO YOU KNOW HOW TO SHUT UP?" is very entertaining. If you do not FIND this book entertaining...check to FIND a pulse.
2. Must have up to date, cutting edge, relevant content that can be applied. "DO YOU KNOW HOW TO SHUT UP?" has a unique and easy to use summary at the end of each chapter that allows you to retain the content so you can use it.
3. Must have the motivation to use the great content. "DO YOU KNOW HOW TO SHUT UP?" addresses the behaviors that we will find on the road through life....TODAY....and Mike Staver has not only gone down that same road ...he gives us a step by step plan to make the behaviors we must deal with.
I just ordered several as gifts and I suggest you do so as well. because Mike has shown me how to guide the behaviors to make my life better ....I want to give that gift to the people who are important to me. Besides some of those friends really need the help.

Mike has always been a top presenter for our company. In the midst of a busy morning, I opened the book just to take a glance and was immediately intrigued. I was only able to read the first few chapters and I love it! It was hard to put down. It reads just like Mike teaches: smooth, interesting, on target and with added humor. Great stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book - "Fluff" free!, April 6, 2008
By
Rad Leader (Albuquerque, NM) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Do You Know How to Shut Up? (Paperback)
This is one of the best "self-help" books I have ever read. Mike does a great job of getting right to the meat of the subject without all of the fluff I usually find in other self-help books. Think of it as a great steak dinner without the nasty garnishments (does anyone ever eat parsley anyway?). The brief (3-5 pages) chapters present great deal to digest; I especially enjoyed reading a chapter before work and then immediately trying to implement the lessons from the book. I consider the book almost a "daily devotional" for any one in leadership, business, government, education, or anyone who wants to better themselves. Beware however, Mike gets right to the core of the issue so only read the book if you truly want to improve yourself!
