Something to write home about,
By David A. Beck (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Do You Know Who You Are (Audio CD)
Great album. Well engineered. Drum work is excellent. This one, sadly now that they are broken up, was really a testament to how well Texas is the Reason meshed together to produce a continuous expression through sound. If you enjoy this, I highly recommend Jawbreaker (Blake S.) and Jets To Brazil (Blake S. from Jawbreaker, the drummer from Texas is the Reason, and others). Also: Get Up Kids, Jimmy Eat World, Sunny Day Real Estate, and of course, South Jersey Sucession Movement.

Great indie,
This review is from: Do You Know Who You Are (Audio CD)
If you like indie rock, then you should definatly have this in your collection. It's up there with Lp2 by Sunny Day Real Estate in tearms of quality, rockability, and sheer emotional power. Each song has as great feeling to it. Not really something I can explain, just a great, strong feeling. You need to listen to the whole song to understand what I'm talking about. The samples courtesy of amazon.com don't do the songs justice. Actually, you should probably buy this without listening to any songs from it , like I did. That way, you can let Texas is the Reason surprise you with their great songwriting skills.Bands former members joined: Jets to Brazil, New End Original. Both are worth checking out as well, especially New End Original.

I have actually been a fan of Texas is the Reason for many years, and incase some people dont know ...they broke up several years ago. Their CD's are very hard to find so thats why i used amazon. Well i personally love texas is the reason...the music flows and it holds meaning on a personal level. I see some brillant person said "they werent poppy or jubilant"...DUDE its emo you want poppy....listen to Brittney spears or NSYNC. This was one of the best emo bands out there and i was sorry to see them go, so if you a fan of emo or Indie rock this is a must buy for you

An excellent influential album from start to finish. Its a real shame that this band is no more. THe drumb work was exceptional. Personal fave track is A jack with one eye. i've been dissapointed by many emo albums. but this album is truly breath taking.

This is my #1 album of all time. Hands down. I cannot be without this album for more than 1 week, and it's been out for 8 years. I love it so much that I've given away 5 copies of it to friends and relatives, and rebought it within a day or two every time. Don't miss out. Buy it now. NOW! Thank you for reading my review.

At a rather hip friend's insistence, I first heard this album in mid to late high school (circa 1995). Seeing as that those years were ground zero for teenage angst and all that comes with being hormonal, confused, and lovelorn, I seized onto this band with a fervor (right along with Mineral, Seam, and a few others). To this day, when I hear the opening bass chords and the swelling drums of the first song, I instinctively grit my teeth, get my rock face on, and prepare to air drum on my steering wheel. This is a powerful record, one that bends and weaves with a beautiful intensity throughout. The desperation of hardcore is still very much a presence in TITR's music, but it's bound tight with melody, memorable time signatures, and pop-savvy structures. Granted, Garrett's voice can drive people away from the band if they aren't willing to give it time (he's more than a tad nasal), but the songs stick with you.
Definitely an album to purchase if you're even momentarily interested in the mid-'90's tail end of the "emo/post hardcore" movement. As for the guy who suggested that the EP was better than this full-length, don't believe it. Get this, and dig in.

Solid.......,

First off this sounds nothing like current pop punk (ala--Green Day)like another reviewer has suggested. Muscially they sound like late 80,s early 90's Samiam and Jawbreaker, maybe even a little Crimpshrine thrown in as well. It's emo if you must place a silly tag on it but it is good none the less--tight,melodic and catchy.

CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT,

call it emo, post punk/ hardcore , and put all the labels you want!!!this is just good rockin' music, texas is the reason takes you in a trip to the mid nineties underground rock, with great emotional lyrics and angry tone, some great overdrive riffs and all the spirit of their time. thats what an artist should bring in each work, a piece of his time. is this where all started? "Do you know who you are?" is an album that everyday is gettin more and more value thanx to its enormous influence in new independent music.

The best emo-core cd of all time.,
By Pat Robinson (Bountiful, UT United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Do You Know Who You Are (Audio CD)
Texas is the Reason could possibly be the best emo band ever. They definetly set the mark for bands such as Elliot and Jazz June. They add a touch of hard core to extremely emotional and heartfelt lyrics. It is sad this is their only cd. But Elliot has helped add to the genre texas helped begin.

This band kicks your sorry arse with harmonies, great song writing and personal lyrics. It's a shame they broke up *sniffles* I think every song is great, even the instrumental "Do you know who you are.." My favorite song is "Back and to the Left" which should be the national anthem.
