Book Description

October 5, 2010
In her book Do You Know Who I Am? Angela Thomas asks God if He knows her—and ultimately does He love her—as she is, right now, today. In each chapter, she names a different identity issue, such as: “I am invisible,” “I am worn out,” “I am undisciplined,” “I am ordinary,” and “I am afraid to dream.” With each honest admission, Angela teaches that God lovingly replies, “Yes, I know your heart. I see your struggle. Now…do you know who I AM?”

Ultimately Angela reveals that the secret to being known and loved lies in an intimate understanding of who God is. Each identity struggle is answered with a short biblical study on the character of God that assures readers that their personal, spiritual, and eternal fulfillment is not dependent on getting themselves together. Rather, God has a purpose for them just as they are—broken, afraid, disappointed, disillusioned.

Through vivid storytelling, biblical teaching, and practical application, readers will find the heartfelt answers they seek.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Angela tells God's truth in a world that desperately needs divine direction. This book will change your life!" (Karen Kingsbury, America's no. 1 inspirational novelist and author of the New York Times bestselling Above the Line series and Unlocked)

“Biblical, real, funny, witty, and life changing. Angela understands a woman’s heart and offers God’s path to freedom through addressing ‘brave questions.’” (Julie Clinton, President, Extraordinary Women)

“Thank you, Angela, for taking on tough issues women face with sound, biblical teaching. May God continue to guide you as you meet women where they are through your powerful gift of encouragement and unique ability to equip them." (Pam Case, Director, LifeWay Women)

“The title of this book alone penetrates the deepest places in our hearts. Does God know me? But how do I know? Angela walks us through the questions all of us ask ourselves at one time or another, the kinds of thoughts we're too embarrassed to say out loud. Our character is flawed and yet God's is perfect. Is He sure He wants to use me? Be ready to be comforted, to be encouraged, to be strengthened, and to fall into the arms of the Great I Am who gives us more than hope. The real question is: Do I know who God is? No matter where we are in our journey with Christ, self doubt always has a way of entering in. Be reminded of who you are in God's eyes and who God is in your life.” (Candace Cameron Bure, Actress)

5.0 out of 5 stars God Knows September 30, 2010
Format:Paperback
I had the privelege of listening to her speak at the She Speaks conference I attended in July, so I was particularly interested in reading her book. I had the opportunity, but I wasn't even sure I had the time to read it and get a review up in a timely manner. I am SO glad that I made the time.

At first glance the title struck me as odd. Do you know who I am? It kind of sounded self-centered to me, but I thought you must need to read the book to understand the title. After reading just the introduction, I realized the title is posed to God. Do you know who I am? Do you know and see that I am trembling? Lonely? Ordinary?
Does God really see and care about us? The answer is YES.

Angela takes us through 12 common feelings (dreaming big, invisible, worn out, suffering, sinner, lonely, undisciplined, hesitant, ordinary, broken and disappointed) and with each one shows us the character of God in that situation. She delves into the Bible with each question and teaches how God knows who we are, knows our struggles and that He is enough. She reminds us that God sees all of us, and His love abounds.
After reading this book I realize that what I struggle with is no surprise to God. He knows everything about me, inluding what sends my heart racing with panic. Instead of allowing my failures and insecurities to get me down, I can choose to dig deeper into how God meets each and every one of those needs. God is sufficient (more than sufficient!) to meet my needs. I can only hope that through admiting my weaknesses, relying on God's promises and continuing on in faith, people can see God shine through me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Changing October 4, 2010
Format:Paperback
I just finished Angela Thomas's new book, Do You Know Who I Am? : And Other Brave Questions Women Ask. It, like the other books I have read by Angela, was life changing. The premise of the book is to state up front the questions that most women struggle with at some point in their walk with God. For each question asked, we are given "God's response." Taking God's naming of Himself to Moses as I AM, Angela lays out God's I AM response to each of our questions to Him. The answer to our question of "Do You Know Who I Am?" lies in whether or not we know who God is.

This book is well written and easy to read. Angela's storytelling abilities make the stories of her life and the scripture references come alive to the reader. Her line of reasoning comes through clearly, as each question is asked and then answered. Each chapter could stand alone separately so the reader could pick up the book and begin at any question that is tugging at their heart.

I would highly recommend this book to any woman seeking a deeper relationship the God of Heaven. As we long to know Him and be known by Him, this book is a very useful tool to see that process and understand both our and God's position. He most definitely knows who we are. Let us learn through studies such as this who He is.

I was provided a free copy of this book to review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Changing Seasons October 12, 2010
By tamrig
Format:Paperback
My family lives in a coastal climate, where the changing of seasons is not very recognizable. And just a little further south of us, there is no change at all. But nobody, and I mean NO BODY can avoid the changing seasons of life! As I read Do You Know Who I Am, the newly released book by Angela Thomas, I was reminded of several seasons I've lived through as a humble traveler on the journey to maturity in Christ. I haven't arrived yet ... I'm still very much a work in process! That's why I enjoyed this new resource from Angela. It is helping me put some of the more common `seasons' into perspective.

In her book, Angela covers a dozen different seasons which are familiar to many maturing believers. I'd like to share a bit of Angela's insight about a couple of those seasons:

* Do you know I am afraid to dream big? God replies: I AM Worthy.

"I'm sure you know first hand that this world is a dream stealer. Just about the time you decide to head for the Eiffel Tower dream in your life, hurricane-force storms blow through to discourage your plans. The weary heart and the exhausted body can decide to play it safe. But God does not intend our lives to unwind and taper off. We have been given one lifetime, and He purposes that we keep growing, keep improving, keep building His kingdom, and keep dreaming of how we might make His glory known. We are supposed to persevere. Follow through. Go the distance. It's just that sometimes I forget why. Mostly I forget who God is ... He is WORTHY!"

* Do you know I am invisible? God replies: I AM the God who sees.

"I had four babies in seven years. Ten years of changing diapers every single day. Lots of baby love. Lots of baby talk. They became my world, and I didn't want it any other way. But what happens in those years is emotionally draining for anyone. Invisibility creeps in to cover your life. No one can see all that you do and the dreams that you dream. Except for the God who SEES."

"If you have lived through devastating physical abuse, rape, or incest, I am so very, very sorry for every pain you have known. And I am incredibly angry that such horrific sin has been committed against you. Women tell me that such a tragedy can make you feel invisible, taking away the light in your life and your hope for the future. Can I tell you what I know about God? He saw it all and He sees you now. He promises to be your Deliverer and your Healer. You are not invisible to Him, nor have you been assigned to live an invisible, broken life. God offers forgiveness to your offender, but for those who refuse to repent and trust His Son, He promises a judgment ... He is the God who SEES!"

I wish I could share a snippet from every chapter, but it would make for a book-sized post! But I will give the title of each chapter. At least then you can have an idea of what she's offering in this resource.

* Do you know I am trembling inside? He is my comfort.
* Do you know I am worn out? He does not grow weary.
* Do you know I am suffering with a thorn? He is my sufficiency.
* Do you know I am a sinner? He is my Savior.
* Do you know I am lonely? He is here.
* Do you know I am undisciplined? He is my strength.
* Do you know I am hesitant? He is generous.
* Do you know I am ordinary? He is my King and my Father.
* Do you know I am broken? He is my Redeemer.
* Do you know I am disappointed? He is my Hope.

I'm sure you can see how helpful this resource is. I've highlighted so much of my copy, that it looks like a child's coloring book! But I love keeping track of info I think might bless someone, and this book is filled with exactly that sort of thing.
