Disappointing,
By Sara J Coutanche (Monroe, LA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Do-It-Yourself Conflict Resolution for Couples (Paperback)
Dr Bienenfeld begins her book by focusing on two important areas of conflict resolution. She offers helpful advice and structures to follow when attempting to deal with issues. The inclusion of case histories to illustrate her structures is useful both for clarification and to see how the entire process works 'in real life'.After the first two chapters, Bienenfeld starts looking at self-help measures for the individual rather than for the couple as a unit. She looks at anger, tension and anxiety and again gives advice as to how to deal with these issues. Her book then goes on to cover a variety of different topics such as handling specific problems (28 pages devoted to 35 'couple-problems'), forgiveness, affirmations, counseling and case studies. I was disappointed in the book as it seemed more like a mishmash of ideas than a book about conflict resolution. It is true that people need to deal with things such as tension and anger when they are in a relationship, but there are plenty of books available which deal far more thoroughly with these topics. |
