Over a decade ago, Gai Perry developed the fascinating but time-consuming piecing process she dubbed Impressionist quilting. More recently, she realized that this same technique is ideally suited to a much smaller scale, and therefore much quicker to make. She also discovered that by framing these little creations they instantly become works of art.
In Do-It-Yourself Framed Quilts: Fast, Fun & Easy Projects, Perry offers nine step-by-step projects for small, wall-mountable quilts (five in her Impressionist style and four more traditional in technique). There's also lots of advice about matting and framing the finished pieces. A gallery of two dozen framed works provides yet more enticing examples of these miniature treasures.

No matter how many bed quilts a quilter makes, only one can be displayed on the bed at a time, so quilters are always looking for other ways to show off their patchwork, applique, and quilting talents. Perry chose small quilts to showcase her handiwork, but she found that without a setting, a miniature quilt can be easily mistaken for a potholder. Then she hit upon framing as the ideal display mechanism for her small treasures, with the frame and matting complementing the colors of the quilt. This do-it-yourself book covers how to choose the perfect frame for a small quilt and how to frame it using ready-made frames or framing strips. Nine small quilt projects are included. An excellent choice for quilting collections.
