For the R300 you do. It does not come with internal memory.

I purchased this camera as a "bundle" deal from Costco...came with camera, Canon case, SD card (which by the way, does not have to be Class 10)...the specs are in the camera info. AND, the best part was an extra premium battery, which is a $60 value, and is a branded Canon product, making the battery capacity visible right on the LCD screen. All of this and the price was the same as other stores for the camera alone, so, my advice would be to shop for a bundle offer!

Yes, you should. It comes with a little on board memory, but it really isn't that much. I bought a couple of 32GB cards to go with it. Get an extended battery as well. The battery that comes with it only lasts about 15-20 minutes.

No - it comes with one. You can always buy another one, or larger one later. It comes with everything you need to get started.

Yes. Nice that you can control the amount of memory your camcorder has! Also great for loading from the card to computer, or if you have more than one card on hand, you have additional memory. This is a GREAT camcorder. I am extremely impressed with its performance!

YES Kate, the Canon HF-R300 does not have any built in memory. (SD cards are cheap enough now that more and more new units do not include internal memory). Also, from my experience you will need a second battery.

Yes. I recommend at least a 32GB card (see link): Transcend 32 GB Class 10 SDHC Flash Memory Card (TS32GSDHC10E)
