4.0 out of 5 stars Blast of the past
I agree that this work goes back to how Oscar began his career with the Dimension Latina. You listen to this CD and you can see yourself listening to the same style which made him so popular 25 years ago. Whether it is with a big band or this style which focuses on the trombones, Oscar is first class. It was worth waiting for the reunion of Oscar and Wladimir. Their...

3.0 out of 5 stars I expected any better
When you can join two great of the latin music, logically you expect any better than any work before made by both, on the other hand when you know that Oscar has a big band, your expectative increases, but when you listen this CD, you think: what happened? where is the Oscar's big band?. The sound is not the best, in my opinion. I would rather expect a new job with Oscar...

Whether it is with a big band or this style which focuses on the trombones, Oscar is first class. It was worth waiting for the reunion of Oscar and Wladimir. Their duos are an excellent blend reminiscent of songs such as El Frutero and Taboga. If you are an Oscar D'leon fan or were a fan of the Dimension Latina era, Doble Play is a must.

SINCE I AM A RELATIVE NEWCOMER TO SALSA MUSIC, MY OPINION MIGHT NOT COUNT FOR MUCH. BUT I LOVE THIS CD AND OSCAR D'LEON. I LOVE HIS STYLE THROUGH AND THROUGH. I RECENTLY STARTED BUYING A FEW SALSA MIX CD'S WITH SUCH NAMES AS CELIA CRUZ AND TITO NIEVES AND KEVIN CEBALLO AND INDIA, I BUY THEM AND HAPPEN TO FIND A FEW SONGS I LIKE... THE SONG THAT MADE ME TAKE NOTICE OF OSCAR D'LEON WAS "LLORARAS"....I LOVE HIM....I ALSO UNDERSTAND HE'S BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME. I HOPE I GET MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO CATCH UP ON MORE OF HIS MUSIC.......

4.0 out of 5 stars Oscar Does it Again., December 18, 2000

I am simply amazed that Oscar was able to bring back that beautiful formula that formed him when he played with La Dimension Latina. The previews review is a complete disrespect to Oscar D' Leon; in this context I object at all cost.

Doble play is a piece of music history that will beat the test of time. Whenever one goes to a dancing venue the song of Lloraras is often played. Doble Play picks up where Oscar stopped recording the formula of Lloraras.

Oscar D'Leon is the Simon Bolivar of tropical music in South America. He is a recording artist and like other artists should record whatever he wants, it's short sighted to expect artists to produce music one way or the other. Which is really the problem in Latin Music.

We have followed Oscar for 30 years so its really about time that Oscar would return to his roots. The only reason Doble Play gets 4 stars instead of 5 is because most of the songs are rather short. They could have being a little longer, we all know that Oscar is capable of doing so. But the songs and Wladimir duets are just as precious as the beautiful South American Continent.
