Excellent Book!,

This review is from: Doctor, Are You Listening?: A Couple's Struggle to Find the Right Infertility Doctor (Paperback)
I don't have adequate words to express what a thrill it was to read your book. I literally stayed up all night last night, as I couldn't put it down. Your story was compelling and it moved me to both laugh and cry inside. Your humor was excellent, and your sensitive descriptions of your trials and anguish even more so. In a way, I feel like I've been priveleged to read your diary. Your journey was very personal and your candor was remarkable. I have no doubt that women who read the book will be inspired and motivated to seek proper medical care. You will bolster the courage in women who are emotionally beaten down by their infertility. Thank you for an inspiring and important book.

This review is from: Doctor, Are You Listening?: A Couple's Struggle to Find the Right Infertility Doctor (Paperback)
This book, a joint authorship between a woman who suffered from infertility and a physician with years of experience treating infertility is a must-read if you are a couple who are trying to conceive, with difficulty, or if you are looking to adopt. The information in this book is right out of the experience of one married couple who went through a true odyssey to start a family.
The book alternates between Linda's treatments, at the hands of various experts to investigate and treat her infertility and ending up with their adoption of two infants. Just the chapters on adoption alone are worth reading this book. You will get an idea of the huge problems that exist for couples who simply want to start a family and cannot conceive a child of their own. It will make you cry. It made me cry. The author goes into detail on her medical treatments--good if you want to know what to expect. Dr. Khatamee provides useful and easy-to-understand explanations of all kinds of causes of infertility and lays out the most common in the back of the book, so you can make sure the major issues are covered when you are undergoing similar investigations. Between reading about Linda's own experience, and the medical information, never overwhelming and always succinct and to the point, any couple who is considering IVF or other fertility treatment really should read this book.

This book has taught me a lot about choosing a doctor that listens to me.

Important reading infertile couples,
This review is from: Doctor, Are You Listening?: A Couple's Struggle to Find the Right Infertility Doctor (Paperback)
The book is a useful combination of personal experiences and scientific information relevant to infertility. Although focused on infertility, Khatamee and Pohl have also written a heart-felt book of important insights about medicine. For example, the authors note that the most brilliant medical student or professional may still lack the basic empathy skills that enable and sustain the connection between patient and doctor. For couples who have struggled with infertility, or anyone who has had to cope with a medical ordeal, this book is required reading.

A Remarkable Story,

This review is from: Doctor, Are You Listening?: A Couple's Struggle to Find the Right Infertility Doctor (Paperback)
This incredible chronicle of the journey Linda and Stuart followed to become parents should be an inspiration for so many people. It speaks to people with fertility issues, and is also a treatice for adoption. It provides people with a reality check on what folks can go through on the road to parenthood. As well, it presents a most important accounting of the relationship between doctor and patient and how important it is for a doctor to honor and repect a woman's instincts, and her plans for having a child.
Ultimately, this human story, recounted with a medical narrative, provides the reader with a large amount of medical knowledge juxtaposed with a heart wrenching story about a family determined to have children. I am in awe of Linda's ability to share this amazingly personal story so that others can reap the benefit of her experiences.

An Essential Book, Not Only for Those Wishing to Start a Family,

This review is from: Doctor, Are You Listening?: A Couple's Struggle to Find the Right Infertility Doctor (Paperback)
This book offers so much, not only to couples hoping to have children, but to everyone, since we all rely on the competence and dedication of our doctors. Linda Perelman Pohl provides a wonderfully moving look into the very personal, and often very difficult experiences she and her husband lovingly shared as they were treated and often mistreated by the medical community. They clearly are dedicated with all their hearts to each other and their two daughters.
Dr. Khatamee contributes his expertise by providing critical medical information in an easy to understand, thoughtful manner. Combined, I can't help but think this book should be one of the "essentials" for doctors, medical students and everyone interested in maintaining their own health. With very limited spare time I have to be quite selective about the books I read but I simply could not put this one down. |
