4.0 out of 5 stars Some imagination, May 16, 2005
A giant squid shaped alien that can put pieces of its consciousness into waxwork dummies. How cool is that? And who comes up with these crazy ideas? Not your standard sci-fi stuff, but right up the Doctor's alley!

The Doctor finds himself banished to Earth with the TARDIS disabled so that he cannot leave. And, gee, there happens to be an alien invasion underway :) Can the Doctor save the Earth from the pulsating green meteorites filled with an invading alien intelligence? What do you think?

A good read, and like all these early episode adaptions seem to be, its fun and easy to read in just a couple hours. Read and enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Given that the Target Doctor Who adaptations began at around, November 2, 2000
One of the first of the Target adaptation of Doctor Who stories, this novel relates the first adventure of the newly regenerated third Doctor on Earth. The script ('Spearhead from Space') was written by one of the series best writers, Robert Holmes, and adapted by the script editor of the time, Terrance Dicks. It is Mr. Dicks first of many Doctor Who books (has he reached 100 yet?).

The TARDIS arrives on Earth with a comatose Doctor, materialising in the middle of a meteor shower. UNIT troops are searching for the meteors, part of a second shower in the same area, when they find the Doctor and hospitalise him.

A kidnapping attempt is made on the Doctor, which he escapes and heads off to UNIT HQ. There he is pressganged into assisting an investigation around the meteor shower he arrived with, and a similar shower six months previously. These turn out to be the first stages of an alien invasion...

Uniting the Doctor's third incarnation with the perennially popular Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart and UNIT, including new assistant Liz Shaw, this story feature an interesting new foe and establishes a change of direction for the Doctor, who is now exiled to Earth. Terrance Dicks, who adapted a large percentage of the Doctor Who serials, is in top form in this first one. There are illustrations which are of better quality than those in many of those in contemporary novelisations.

All-in-all, a good book. Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Doctor Who: The Auton Invasion, August 5, 2005
A Kid's Review
The Doctor is exiled to Earth by the Time Lords during a meteor shower which UNIT is investigating. The Doctor discovers that the meteors contain portions of the alien Nestene creatures and the Invasion is already under way.

Meanwhile, the squidlike Nestene Consciousness has invaded the local Auto Plastics factory, using it to manufacture an army of Autons. It plans to collect the meteors to fuel its living plastic body in order to take over Earth.

The Doctor has constructed a weapon to stop the alien Consciousnes. But with Waxworks coming to life and shop dummies running amok, He might be already too late...
