Excellent, must read!,
By Daniel Boone (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: What Your Doctor Doesn't Know About Nutritional Medicine May Be Killing You (Hardcover)
This is a must-read for anybody interested in their health. (Who isn't?). It confronts the pharmaceutical and medical industry and basically shows that the health care system in the USA is in need of great improvement. Other developed countries spend far less on healthcare, and have greater human life expectancy....the USA can do better.
Here, Dr Strand empowers the reader, and equips him with knowledge to prevent or fight many degenerative diseases. He backs it all up with more than 1300 sceintific studies. He is not selling vitamins, as he cites no brand names in the pages. Any body that thinks that quality vitamins are expensive should try the alternative...illness, disease, and missed work opportunities. Any medical Doctor that wants to excel at true patient care, and teaching, and to build up his practice, with long-term vision should buy this book, and practice what is recommended to complement their current activities.

Dr.Strand is selling books and subscriptions not supplements,
By An Avid Reader (NH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: What Your Doctor Doesn't Know About Nutritional Medicine May Be Killing You (Hardcover)
The book does a terrific job positioning supplements as an aid to medecine and as a prevention tool. His web site clearly is a business to sell both his book and subscriptions to his information about supplements specific to various diseases and disorders.
Reviewer # 2 "A Reader" claims Dr. Strand is in the business of selling supplements, which does not appear to have any basis in fact. His apparently amateur criticisms of Dr. Strand's research citings seems to overlook the many mentions Dr. Strand makes for research supporting his findings. For instance on Page 8, Dr. Strand says "In the past year alone, I have examined more than thirteen hundred peer reviewed medical studies involving nutritional supplements and how they affect chronic degenerative diseases. These studies are double blind, placebo-controlled medical studies, the kind that physicians love. The overwhelming majority of these studies show a significant health benefit to thos patients who take nutrients at optimal levels, which are significantly higher than the RDA levels." Dr. Strand is no snake oil nor even supplement salesman. He offers solid advice for improving your health beyond the recommendations of the traditional medical community. Five years ago, many doctors did not support multi-vitamins and high dosage antioxidants. Recent research is beginning to change this, but Dr. Strand is out in front for people who need more than traditional medical treatments can offer.

Help With Your Health,

This review is from: What Your Doctor Doesn't Know About Nutritional Medicine May Be Killing You (Hardcover)
This book is very important for modern health concerns. It offers treatment for problems that conventional medicine is unable to address.
Arguments are presented in a clear professional manner that is convincing of their truthfulness. This is no pseudo medicine full of a quacks mumbo jumbo. The case histories are very helpful to illustrate and confirm the points. Also the availability of online consultation, presented in the book, is of unique value. I use this book as a reference with my friends who have health questions and problems.

I highly recommend this book. I was experiencing similar symptoms as Dr. Strand's wife and the book gave me great insight into today's nutrition and supplement arena. Dr. Strand's perspecive is balanced and his voice is a welcome help in the wave of traditional medicine and prescriptions. Enjoy! His web site is www.bionutrition.org

Excellent Info for old and young, Sick and healthy.,

This review is from: What Your Doctor Doesn't Know About Nutritional Medicine May Be Killing You (Hardcover)
I read extensively about health, nutrition and disease prevention. Bar none, this is the best book I've read that covers the gamut of major diseases and health concerns. The text is easy to read and understand - even for those who are NOT familiar with various health terms. The info is laid out in a well-thought out, logical manner. You will definitely wonder why you haven't learned about this info before... and the answer is also provided in the book. I have been searching for a doctor or a resource that combines the best of the medical world with the best of the nutritional world. I've known all along you cannot have health without nutrition - any doctor who says that nutrition doesn't matter is a dolt. (That's like saying that oxygen isn't important.) Well, I finally found the doctor and the resource. (Wish he were in my home state, though!) This is a keeper for your long term library. Every chapter has excellent info that can improve or maintain your health or ... it may benefit your immediate and extended family, your friends and acquaintances, even strangers that you may "touch". Truly, don't miss a single page in this book. Then, keep it handy for reference for years to come because not only is the information excellent but it is also timeless.

Very educational and insightful book,

This is a good book that talks about importance of nutritional supplements and their role in maintaining optimal health. I am in my early 30s and being young and also a health and exercise fanatic, I had always thought that eating a well-balanced diet was sufficient. Little did I know that 99% of the population does not get ALL the necessary nutrients that are required for your body to function at an optimal level. I found the section on the autoimmune system very interesting and something that I could relate to. This book has expanded my horizons and was very insightful.
Another helpful book to read that will help you guide you through the maze of nutritional supplements that are available is "Comparative Guide to Nutrition" by Lyle Macwilliams. To my knowledge, it is the only book available that rates the products that out in the marketplace right now.

Dr Strand's Confessions,
By
This review is from: What Your Doctor Doesn't Know About Nutritional Medicine May Be Killing You (Hardcover)
This book rolls back some of the falacious defensiveness of traditional medical thinking and shows the existing bias against nutritional medicine.
Dr Strand is blunt and forthright about his findings and is careful to give credit to the treatments that were effective, and to identify those that were not. He does not decry pharmaceuticals nor does he promise nutritionals as the end of all cures. Instead, he advocates the use of them in combination when possible. His writing does reveal a competition between pharmaceutically trained physicians and those who dispense and recommend nutritionals. His case studies are excellent, and he retains a sense of reality and knowledgable insight afforded him by his traditional medical training that has now been tempered by his own experience. If you want the truth on nutritional medicine, which is sorely lacking in our medical schools who are in some ways subsidized by big pharma, this will please you...and perhaps even make you more healthy.

This is for Nutritional Supplement Doubters and Disbelievers,
By A Customer
This review is from: What Your Doctor Doesn't Know About Nutritional Medicine May Be Killing You (Hardcover)
If you doubt the effects of nutritional supplements...well, this is for you. If you are convinced...well, it's still great with a great amount of information that you shouldn't be without. This book is easily digested and written to be understood by the layman even though Dr. Strand seems to be talking to doctors as well. Even better, there are tons of bibliography links so that you can read the mainstream scientific articles that he derives his information from if you are the super pessimist.Great book...

Eye Opener,
By A Customer
This review is from: What Your Doctor Doesn't Know About Nutritional Medicine May Be Killing You (Hardcover)
This is a fantastic book! I have been taking high quality nutritional supplements for over 3 years now and have noticed the incredible improvement in my body. However, when I tried to describe the increase in energy, overall health, decrease in joint pain and headaches to others, the message didn't always translate. Plus, if I would "promote" a certain type of vitamin/supplement - say Gingko Biloba, for example, people would purchase cheaper and less effective brands - not believing that you get what you pay for and you really should invest in your health and buy the best out there. Dr. Strand was able to say in layman's terms, but with a lot more credibility, what I have been trying to communicate for years to family and friends. This is a fantastic read and I wasn't discouraged afterwards; rather, I was encouraged since I knew I was on the right track...and you can be too!

Could Not Put This Book Down,
This review is from: What Your Doctor Doesn't Know About Nutritional Medicine May Be Killing You (Hardcover)
You have heard people say that before. It has happened to me about 3 times in my reading life thus far and this is one of them. I was fascinated about the true life stories of how nutritional supplements helped people live healther and longer lives in spite of the fact they were facing life-threatening illnesses. As we get older, I assure you that we can relate to a lot of the case histories given in the book but until now, I had no idea of how nutritional supplements to your diet could not only help eliminate what ails you, they can also help you achieve more from your life. I would strongly suggest that you consider reading a very good companion book entitled "Food, Mood and Money" that discusses the same subject but adds considerably to it.
