I first heard Dr. Hook in 1997 when I found a record that my uncle had in the basement and so I listened to it and from then on I was a fan. The album was "The Ballad of Lucy Jordan". Since then I have been a big fan and it seems like everytime I hear a song that I haven't heard before it just rocks! I have not yet found a song that they have done or a record that they have done with songs on it that aren't awesome. I think if you like seventies rock or are just a big hippie then you would love this record. I have just gotten it and it is the best!

"Ain't the kinda love I get, but baby that's the kinda love I need." My wife hates this song as much as I love it. I have looked for this album ever since high school. Thank you for having it.

This is Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show's debut album, "Doctor Hook". It was produced in 1971 and features the hit single "Sylvia's Mother". Ray Sawyer and Dennis Locorriere were the lead vocalists for the band and now have solo careers. This CD appeals to the country and rock audiences. This is the band that can make you laugh one minute and cry the next...The songs were written by the late Shel Silverstein.

There is one song from my youth I always remember and that is Kiss It Away. I play guitar and when I heard this song I knew I had to learn how to play it. For a guitar player, it was simple yet moving. The way the vocals build through the song and the hammering on the guitar at the end to finally the sobbing and true crying. This was far better crying than even Michael Jackson when he ended She's Out of My Life. When the singer is crying .... you believe the tears and the emotions. The songs are superb, Sylvia's Mother is superb yet Kiss It Away, to me, makes the album. If you want your heart tugged and your emotions yanked off their chain you owe it to yourself to at least get Kiss It Away and spend the $.99. It is raw emotion at its finest. So many decades have passed and this one song lingers on and on and on ......

This is a great studio album cd from Dr.Hook & the Medicine Show. Ray Sawyer was from the Mobile, Alabama area, and so was another one the guys.
Also, included is a band member from Meridian, Mississippi. So, you get a somewhat "Southern Rock" flavor to it.

It contains 11 great songs. It includes the hits: Sylvia's Mother, Marie Lavaux (about the voodoo Queen of New Orleans), Makin' it Natural, Judy, and Mama, I'll sing one song for you. All the other songs are very good also. This is graat music a great classic album cd from this band. I really enjoy listening to mine. Thanks!!!

I have a vinyl copy of this album that I bought a few years ago and it's an incredible album. I was fairly unfamliar with the band before i bought it but it won me over immediately. They have different styles they can play and each one sounds natural. My favorite song has got to be "Kiss it Away". It's a real soulful song. "Makin it Natural" and "Sylvia's Mother" are also great songs. Reccomend this album to anyone with good taste in music.
