While the clips reveal a lot of story lines, there are few real spoilers.

It was, in my opinion, great to see other Whovialns geek out as much as I do when I talk about Doctor Who, and that's what I saw when watching it.

The "Best-of" episodes are an excellent way to introduce new viewers to Doctor Who. Told in documentary style, the episodes consist of celebrity fans discussing their favorite moments of the series and, more importantly, what those moments reveal about the Doctor. Relevant clips from the series (11th Doctor series with Matt Smith) are included for illustration.

The "Best of" episodes are especially useful to newcomers as a ramp up for the acronyms and other references in the series that typically can be understood only through long-term exposure. While the clips reveal a lot of story lines, there are few real spoilers. My sense is a newcomer could watch the "Best of" episodes and still be able to go back and enjoy all the episodes in chronological order. Mostly what a newcomer would get from the "Best of" episodes is a strong sense of the character the Doctor as well as an overview of the requisite mythology (e.g., the TARDIS, the sonic screwdriver, the Daleks, etc.). I highly recommend the "Best of" epsidods to new viewers of Doctor Who.

For seasoned Doctor Who fans the episodes provide an opportunity to consider the series' on-going questions (e.g., the darkness lurking beneath the Doctor's normally calm exterior, the implications of time travel, etc.). Many of the comments are insightful and thought provoking, and help make the Doctor a more three-dimensional character. I particularly like the comment at the end of the first special Best of Doctor Who by the gifted actor Mark Sheppard who played the character of the FBI agent Canton Everett Delaware III in The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon episodes (his father William Morgan Sheppard played the role of the older Canton Everett Delaware III).

If you're a Doctor Who fan, you should watch these, as they help you understand a whole lot that's not explained in the show.

If you're not a Doctor Who fan, you should watch the show until you are a Doctor Who fan, at which point my first sentence will apply to you.

And Matt Smith rocks. I'm still wearing black from his announced leaving of the show. He's affecting my on-going search for a quality Dr. Who ceramic travel mug with silicone lid because I really want his face on my mug, but I'm mad at him. So, that aside, WATCH EVERYTHING YOU CAN WITH HIM IN IT. Including these specials.

Everyone is so scared of change. If you are a Doctor Who lover you must expect change. Each Doctor has been a good to better change. This will help you see why Matt Smith is perfect to play this version of The Doctor. Enjoy!

The Doctor Who series is the best ever. Hope the brand new doctor can fill the shoes of Tenet and Smith--and the other guy before that (sorry I forgot your name).

Learned a lot about the series by watching the little tidbits provided. I guess it might be just as well to watch it in the actual episode but it was fun hearing other people's reaction to him.

I have been a fan of Doctor Who for several years and have always enjoyed the program. It just seems to get better and better as it go one. Each Doctor seems better than the last. Good acting good, scripts, and constantly emproving staging makes the shows fresh and entertaining.
