More About the Author

Dave Gibbons passionately roams in three different global playgrounds: The first park is THE AWAKEN GROUP (THEAWAKENGROUP.COM), a consulting firm specializing in creativity, culture and innovation; the second park is a movement of churches not bound by geography that he calls "home" (NEWSONG.NET), throughout Southeast Asia, China, India, Korea, Mexico City, London, and North America. And lastly there is a crazy bunch of people in an organization called XEALOT that focuses on transforming marginalized communities through strategic leadership development and ideation ventures. Dave has written a book on culture and leadership based on an eastern parable called The Monkey and the Fish.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bringing Back a classis, August 15, 2008

I'm not a big comics person, but huge into Doctor Who these days, and picked up this compendium of reprints from old Doctor Who Monthly magazines. As I don't have the time or patience to buy individual comics (and many have stories that take me about one minute to read) I prefer these trade paperbacks.

And the writing is good, and great job coloring the old b&w comics.

The one flaw is there is no intro or any writing to place the comics in context, when they were done, the people behind them, etc. It's just several issues, bound together. Still, I'll probably be getting the next one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Collection, May 26, 2011

Enjoyed the stories in this compilation.
Really makes me wish that you could subscribe to Doctor Who Magazine in the US for a more reasonable price.

Because my original intro to Who was on a PBS station and showed the Tom Baker to start with the book was nostalgic fun.
Reccomend for any Who/Comics fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good stories, and stars the fourth Doctor, March 3, 2011
This review is from: Doctor Who Classics Volume 1 (v. 1) (Paperback)
Doctor Who and the Iron Legion - When he stumbles upon a cross-dimension attack on an English village, The Doctor soon learns that there in an alternative dimension where Rome never fell, and its robot legions are bent on eternal conquest. This is a good science fiction story, but does not make good use of The Doctor. 3 stars

Doctor Who: City of the Damned - The Doctor discovers a city where all emotion is banned, making The Doctor the most dangerous criminal around! This is a good Doctor Who story, quite fun and exciting. 5 stars

Doctor Who: Timeslip - A giant chronivorous creature has the Tardis in its grasp, but the Tardis might just be one dainty morsel too many! Quite an interesting story - this is the one-off story - good and short. 5 stars.

Doctor Who and the Star Beast - When a spaceship crashes on Earth, it contains a cute and cuddly creature, but this "Meep" is being pursued by a group of ugly insectoid creatures who will stop at nothing to capture it. It's up to The Doctor to get to the bottom of just what is going on. This story probably does the best job of presenting the fourth Doctor at his irrepressible best, which I like, but the character of Sharon is so poorly drawn that she really bothered me. Still, it was a very good story. 4 stars.

So, let me just say that I really liked this graphic novel, and really enjoyed reading it. It has good stories, and stars the fourth Doctor, who could ask for more?!?
