More About the Author

Dave Gibbons passionately roams in three different global playgrounds: The first park is THE AWAKEN GROUP (THEAWAKENGROUP.COM), a consulting firm specializing in creativity, culture and innovation; the second park is a movement of churches not bound by geography that he calls "home" (NEWSONG.NET), throughout Southeast Asia, China, India, Korea, Mexico City, London, and North America. And lastly there is a crazy bunch of people in an organization called XEALOT that focuses on transforming marginalized communities through strategic leadership development and ideation ventures. Dave has written a book on culture and leadership based on an eastern parable called The Monkey and the Fish.

3.0 out of 5 stars By far the weakest of the Doctor Who Classics books, November 21, 2011
This review is from: Doctor Who Classics Volume 4 (Paperback)
This graphic novel contains one one-off story, one rather short story, and two multi-part story arcs, and other one-off stories. They are:

Junk Yard Demon - The (fourth!) Doctor arrives on a salvage-ship, not realizing that among their treasure is a not-entirely-deactivated cyberman! [Sadly, the illustration work on this story was a little sub-standard. For example, all of the characters have gigantic feet!]

The Neutron Knights - With the conquest of Earth entering its final hours, Merlin summons the (fourth) Doctor to his aid. [Sadly, this little story-ette has the feel of only being part of a story, and that is because it is. It serves as an epilogue to a later story.]

The Tides of Time - When a demon seizes control of the Event Synthesizer, he begins a discordant tune that is certain to bring on universal chaos. Now it is up to the (fifth) Doctor to set everything right.

Stars Fell on Stockbridge -
The Stockbridge Horror - These two stories actually add up to one big story in which the (fifth) Doctor must confront an enemy aboard his own Tardis. [The illustration work starts out OK in the initial chapters, but deteriorates throughout the stories, until by the end the illustrations look nothing short of comical - and NOT in a good way!]

This is by far the weakest of the Doctor Who Classics books. The stories are OK, rather than gripping, and the illustration work is excellent in some places and terribly poor in others. Overall, I give it a rather guarded recommendation.
