5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious Fun for Who Fans
I wore out a previous edition of this - laughing out loud at many of the same jokes over and over. The book is a sarcastic masterpiece, and should by no means be considered a serious reference (The earlier edition was more appropriately titled the completely USELESS encyclopedia).

1.0 out of 5 stars This is a lie!!!
I believe just about everything that these people wrote down is a lie. This is the most horibble book i ALMOST read. I started to skim through it and i relized, "This is such a total lie!" So i just stoped reading it. They had a lot of stupid things that aern't true, and aren't kind to the actors and actresses in this show. It is a horible book and you shouldn't buy it,...

It pokes devastating fun at what we've always found silly about Doctor Who, but it's obvious the authors are obsessive fans of the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite as Useless, August 16, 2008

This review is from: Doctor Who: The Completely Unofficial Encyclopedia (Paperback)
First off, let me warn the serious Doctor Who fan--this book is most definitely NOT for you. Like its predecessor, it's irreverent and occasionally vulgar and pokes fun at almost every possible aspect of the show.

But if you're like me and laugh at the rubber suits and bad CGI while you still enjoy the show, then go ahead and get this book. Just be aware--if you own or read "The Completely Useless Encyclopedia," this isn't in the same league. It's close, but it's a definite near-miss (at least for me). It's like Howarth and Lyons were trying too hard to duplicate the magic of "Useless." And, like many sequels, it just doesn't quite make it.

While it's not as side-achingly hilarious as the first book, it's still a funny read. There are some truly brilliant entries ("Sarah Jane and Rose...," amongst others, continues to reduce me to laughing tears). As long as you don't expect the same high level of inspired sarcastic humour as "Useless", then this book shouldn't disappoint you.

4.0 out of 5 stars ...And a Completely Useless Review, February 18, 2008
By

This review is from: Doctor Who: The Completely Unofficial Encyclopedia (Paperback)
The Completely Unofficial Encyclopedia is not as funny as the Completely Useless Encyclopedia. The Completely Useless Encyclopedia: (Incorporating the Junior Doctor Who Book of Lists) (Doctor Who (BBC Paperback)) This new book is devoted almost entirely to the first two seasons of the new series, with some references to the Big Finish productions, the novels, and fewer still to the original series. Of course, they roasted the original quite well in Useless, but it's amazing they could write an entire second book on a much smaller base of material. It still inspires a laugh, but not nearly as much as much as the first book. Surprisingly, there is a lot more praise for the series, but is still mostly full of derision. Fans who can't stand to see their sacred cows made fun of should avoid this book, but those who can laugh at their favorite show's expense will find it a nice supplement when watching repeats. This is also an indispensible reference work for those people who have a "get a life" DW fan for a roommate or relative and need some hot buttons to press.
Oh, and for those who were wondering, yes, it still has the Top Ten lists! Including such titles as "Ten Pointless Poll Victories" and "Ten Stunning Revelatons The Face of Boe Might Make to the Doctor if He Can Ever Be Bothered".
