Roman Daleks?,

This review is from: Doctor Who: I Am A Dalek (Doctor Who (BBC Paperback)) (Paperback)
The Tenth Doctor and Rose plan to play some golf on the Moon but end up on the south coast of England in a bland, boring town which has nothing going on. Or so they thought.
It seems arhaeologists have found a Roman mosaic from 70 AD. It shows scenes from ancient England, people, grapes and, yes, a Dalek. Then a dead girl comes back to life. Then the archaeologists find a...well, that would be telling. The story is short, swift and, because it has Daleks in the plot, delightful. The book shows that Gareth Roberts knows general Dr. WHO? history (with the use of a Time Ring) and Dalek history (as he uses the idea of the Dalek Factor at one point). Too bad it took so long to get to me - I ordered it in April! While having 104 pages it took me less than an hour to read. Frankly, I would have liked a little more story for my money.

A *fun* read...,

This review is from: Doctor Who: I Am A Dalek (Doctor Who (BBC Paperback)) (Paperback)
What a fun little book! And a "quick reads" indeed. I read it in one sitting last night. VERY much like an episode of Doctor Who (yay Rose, I miss her so much!) Which I guess isn't surprising because I believe this author has written several Doctor Who books. I also very much enjoyed "seeing" a Dalek again, and I loved the references the story makes to events that happened in the TV series as well.

Pretty Cool...,

This review is from: Doctor Who: I Am A Dalek (Doctor Who (BBC Paperback)) (Paperback)
This is a very quick read that feels like a David Tennant episode; and the Tennant episodes are very fast-paced.
The story is simple: The Doctor and Rose are going to play golf on the moon, but end up in London; and find a Dalek in an ancient Roman picture. What occurs is a race to stop another Dalek that is looking to exterminate the human race, and instill a plan for domination of the universe. This may be a book I pick every now and then to read; and, I may be looking for other quick reads in the Doctor Who universe.

This is a 104 page book that left me shocked at how much the writer could pack into such few pages.
The story is very interesting from the very beginning to the end. It is fast paced & you can picture the characters as the story unfolds. This is my first Doctor Who book & I liked it enough to buy another one & I am anxiously awaiting its arrival.

The Dalek Factor,
This review is from: Doctor Who: I Am A Dalek (Doctor Who (BBC Paperback)) (Paperback)
At just over a hundred pages, you might think that Gareth Roberts' "I Am A Dalek" is too short to be that enjoyable. On the contrary, it's a swift moving and fun read that can easily be digested within an hour. In this tale, the Tenth Doctor and Rose have plans to do a little bit of golfing on the moon. Instead, the TARDIS hurls them to the south coast of England.
At first, it seems like the TARDIS has malfunctioned, but when the Doctor and Rose are split up, they uncover a dark, ancient Roman secret that brings a legendary enemy back to life. With just a few pages to get the story across, Roberts wastes little time in developing characters. Fans of the series will have no problems with this, as the Doctor, Rose and the Daleks have all been fleshed out on television. The only characters who get a bit of development are Frank Openshaw and Kate Yates, who play pivotal roles in the tale. For fans of fast-paced tales, this book is the perfect choice. Fans of Doctor Who will most likely enjoy this story as well, although it might not have enough of a plot to give them their Who fix. I personally enjoyed this story and plan to check out more of the "Quick Reads" series. Recommended. |
