Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Daleks have an eyestalk which they use to view the world. But baby Daleks aren't as lucky. They have eyes in their torso and are quite often captured from their nests and enslaved by larger lifeforms to be used as webcams. The Time Lords have always used Dalek Webcams to talk to each other over large distances of space and time. This could be one reason why the Daleks are always trying to destroy everything. This Dalek Webcam might very well be one of the babies captured in another place in space/time. It is plug and play, and has LEDs to let you know when it is powered on. Just open up the lens door and sit it on your desk. The built in microphone will let you send sound along with your video. And if you want your Time Lord friends to have a better view of your face, you can always slip on the monitor clip and stick the webcam up a little higher. The Dalek Webcam is a great way to assert your Doctor Who obsession all the while giving you a great little webcam.

I was excited when I received the long awaited for package in the mail but after playing around with it for some time, I found it to be mildly disappointing. It was overall just a gimmick. It was not very durable, for after handling it I found that the Dalek fell off it's stand and would not go back in. The program used to handle it as well was a low quality one that did not work well even with Windows XP. When I did get it to work, the image quality was very low. The hatch used to cover the webcam also is not made to go back very well. It's fun at first but I found that I'm going to need a different webcam if I want good quality.

This a your standard issue webcam with no bells&whistles but does the job for basic videoconferencing, Skype, etc. What makes it stand out is that it is a Dalek! The detail work is pretty good, even the antennae light up when plugged in to the USB port. Nice touch. The clamp is secure enough but could be a bit better designed. Software is necessary to install for Windows recognition, but was simple enough.

All in all, it's basic but fun, especially if you are a Doctor Who fan.

This was bought as a Christmas gift and the recipient was extatic when sho opened it. Set up took a little time, but it looked like it would work fine. Still, no matter that we even tried it on another computer, the microphone didn't work. I reported it to Amazon and even went so far ast to chat with a "representative" who told me I needed to return it to the third party I had bought it from. I said I knew that I just needed the company's contact information. The "rep" said sorry, you bought it thru a third party, so you need to contact them. I said I KNOW, I NEED THE CONTACT INFO FOR THE COMPANY. The "rep" said you need to contact the company. This went on for a little bit before I gave up. This was by far the worst experience I have had with Amazon. I am not amused.
